Front Panel I/O Adapter

Hi,

I am trying to find a front panel I/O adapter for my computers 3.5 or 5.25" bay. I would like it to have two usb ports, at least one fire wire port, and an audio/mic ports. I have found plenty that connect to my computers back panel connectors but I have extra headers on my motherboard for these ports. I would prefer to find a front panel I/O adapter that would connect directly to the motherboard headers. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Easiest solution I can come up with is FrontX . They can sell you the pieces you'll need to customize the front I/O panel you want, and they offer them with either back panel or motherboard connections......your choice! :cool:
 
thank you so much. thats exactly what i was looking for! just one question: is there anything that could be mounted on so it fits in a 3.5" bay, bc i dont really want to drill holes in my case?
 
Probably something like how you'd stealth a blow hole I guess. Take a 3.5 bay cover and some plexi to make a custom mount and use some double side tape to put the bay cover over the plexi mount... or something like that.

Difference is that you'd use double sided tape to attach the 3.5 bay cover to it.

What does the front panel connector your recommended need in ways of mobo headers (is it one or two usb headers?). And what are the dimensions of the front panel (width and height).
 
It's small, has three three mobo headers (one Firewire, one USB, and one audio - You can see each header connector in the pic) Size is just about under 3.5, it's big enough to just fit in a 3.5 bay cover.

If I can find some extra batteries for my camera I'll post some pics.
 
k thanks (i think i was getting confused by the headers bc it looks like each bundle of wires has a big header and then multiple, smaller separate headers). pictures would be greatly appreciated.
 
Yeah, I imagine some boards have the pins in a certain location other then a "standard" layout so with the little extra pins you can manuelly make where each pin is reguardless of your mobo.

I'll see what I can do for pics, I'll build a short and sweet mount for mine as a little tutorial for you that is as well as I can, I wonder if I can bend CD case plexi with a hair dryer on high? LOL
 
I ended up purchasing from newegg the silverstone front panel. i will just have to connect the firewire cable to a rear port, oh well. thanks for all your help guys!

I recently purchased the 3.5" Front I/O Module made by Siverstone. The model number is FP31. I am having trouble connecting the audio/mic ports to my motherboard (which is a Gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo Pro). The header cables on the box of the I/O module are labeled differently than the instruction manual for my motherboard labels the headers on the motherboard.

My motherboard has a 10 pin array for the Front Audio Connector. This is how it is arranged:

10 - FSENSE2 xxxxx 9-LINE2_L
8-No Pin xxxxx 7- FAUOIO_JD
6- FSENSE1 xxxxx 5- Line2_R
4- -ACZ_DET xxxxx 3- MIC2_R
2- GND xxxxx 1- MIC2_L

Note: the x's are just to make it so the words don't blend together, they are not suppose to represent spacing of the connectors on the mobo.

The cables coming from the I/O panel are as follows:

Mic-In
Mic-Power
Ground (2 ground cables)
L-OUT
R-OUT
L-RET
R-RET

Could you please tell me how the header cables on the module translate to hook up to those pins on my motherboard?

well, i thought i could help you until i read the pin assignments closer. doesn't look like it will work to me, i could be wrong though. sorry man.
