Just went from stock cooler on a Q6600 @3Ghz to a Scythe Ninja revB with 120mm fan and only got a drop in load temps of about 8-9c...
I was kind of expecting more... I know the MX-2 paste probably has to settle in a bit but still...8c??
Still getting load temps of 60 61 61 63, seems high for such a huge cooler.
1.18v reported in CPU-Z under load.

What gives?

You sure it's mounted properly? Those temps sound pretty high ... my max temp is about 52C under Orthos load; E6750 @ 3.36 Ghz, Scythe Ninja (obviously) with a Yate Loon 1300 RPM fan.

is that a g0 or a b3? i have a b3 and those are the temps i get under load with a weaker cooler <zalman9500>.

Adding another fan in pull configuration at the other end of that heatsink would help out temps a bit too.

Barely. The Ninja doesn't work very well with a push/pull config. The Scythe Infinity/Mugen benefits, but it doesn't really make a different with the Ninja.

Well with the side panel off I am getting 56 57 57 59 load
so 4c lower on each core which tells me that it's not really getting any fresh air with the side panel on. I'm thinking the length of my 8800GT is blocking the airflow from my intake which is located in the front towards the bottom...
I'm going to double check and see if it's mounted correctly though. I'm still not happy

OP, what case are you using?

If possible, you might consider installing a 120mm intake in the 5.25" bays directly across from the Ninja.

Intel push-pin mounting or bolt thru screws and bracket?

The push-pins don't give enough force for it to make good contact, so you'd need to buy a Thermalright bolt-thru mounting kit from somewhere.

JaYp146, I'm using a cheap Asus case, the only place for an intake fan is a single 80mm in the lower front of the case, and I believe my 8800GT is blocking most of this airflow from reaching the Ninja.

ilal2ielli, I'm using the Intel push-pin mounting that came with the Ninja. Sure the Thermalright bolt-thru would probably do a better job, but there's no reason that the stock mounting shouldn't be at least sufficient.

I think my problem is case airflow...
I went over the mounting again and all is sound.

I'd suggest that you look into getting a Scythe Kama Bay - basically takes 3 of your 5.25" bays and turns them into a 120mm fan intake. Or, if you happen to have some mesh laying around, ghetto mod it in place and use your own 120mm fan.
