Fried PSU

I think I may have fried my Corsair VX450W PSU.

What happened:

- Was working on my WHS on Friday, I changed some fans around.
- All of today I was unable to connect through remote desktop, it would just freeze before it got to the login screen. It worked just fine on Friday and Saturday.
- Finally opened it up to have a look, noticed the PSU fan wasn't spinning because a loose cable tie got caught in the fan grill.
- PSU felt very warm. I could feel the heat radiating from it when I put my hand within a few inch's.
- The power supply had probably been cooking since I last opened up the system on Friday, it's been on constantly.
- I removed the cable tie and turned the computer back on. The PSU fan was a lot louder than usual, most likely ramped up the RPM because it was overheated.
- I hooked up my monitor to see if it would boot in to WHS. I waited for about 10-15 seconds at the loading screen then turned it off to let the system cool down for about 30mins. I didn't want to do any damage to my HDD's
- When I turned it on this time there was a weird clicking sound, the fan was still spinning and the system powered on, but my PSU had never made this sound before.

I Also noticed some yellow stuff inside the PSU.



I am not really sure what to do now, I'm wary of using this PSU in my system. I have 8 HDD's hooked up to it and over 9TB of data on them. Could it be that only the fan is damaged and can be replaced or is the whole PSU fried?
 
Corsair offers advanced RMAs if you ask for it. If you're worried about the PSU, that would be my suggestion. Based on the symptoms you described, it's possible the unit is on its way out.

By the way, the yellow stuff in there is just glue, and it's perfectly normal.
 
RMA it. I just had a TX750 go belly up on me and requested an RMA Sat morning. They sent me the RMA number and address where to send the PSU back within the hour. Sending it back tomorrow and according to their documentation they should have a replacement to me within 5 business days of receiving it. Keeping my fingers crossed.
