Moms computer was screwed up and needed a new mobo. I got everything in a turned it on....smelled smoke. Stupid me, i noticed that the hsf wasn't on correctly, i put it on backwards so that the cpu wasnt even touching it. What are the chances of the cpu being fried? I also noticed that the cpu fan was disconnected. Im such a fuckin tard, today was a bad day. Anywho, do i get to shop for a new cpu?

Put the cpu fan on correctly and plug it in. Try to see if it works now.

Can a CPU be fried that quickly???

You would think that it would simply be a "Poor Performer", like a retarded school-child, neglected as a baby.

If it was an AMD cpu, its basically guaranteed to be friend :)

Agreed. If it was an AMD CPU, I've fried them faster than I could pull the plug.

Best advice was already given. Reseat the CPU, make sure the fan is on, and power it up. You'll know if you fried it or not.
