I have just fried my ati 9600xt. I have a watercooling setup from Danger Den which I installed myself. I took the watercooling out in order to repair a leak it had near the video card block (one of those plastic hose clamps came off and the tube had a gap between the hose and connector). The leak was so minute I didn't think it would be a problem at all. So I continued and fixed it and put everything back together. Upon booting I smelled an odd smell you know the kind.... the smell of something electronic burning. I unmounted the gpu cooling block only to notice it wasn't making contact with the gpu at all (I put it on wrong). So to get to the point, what are my options? Does anyone repair these? I am on a extreamly low budget for computer parts right now. I have more important things to spend money on right now. Thanks in advance.

Ouch, that sucks

Hopefully you have the common sense not to RMA it, so it looks like you need to buy a new card
You can get a Geforce 4 TI4200 pretty cheaply nowadays until you get money to buy another gaming card

Personally, id put the stock HSF back on and RMA it, usually they dont check, or dont care.

/me looks around for the "no you cant do that, thats fraud" people

it is fraud... but when your poor, your poor...

I am a pretty honest man and don't think I will do that. I will probably save up and buy a new one. I was really just wondering if anyone repaired them for cheap. I am using a friends at the moment its a gf3 64mb vid card bought in 2000 I think. This vid card does 100fps in most games I play (counter-strike, bf viet, wc3ft). I was shocked. It even looks better. This is with vsync and 32bit color too. Interesting.

Once a video card is fried, I hightly doubt anyone could fix it

The geforce might look better because of drivers, or different settings maybe - but with equal settings, the 9600XT will crush the geforce 3

If he RMA's the card, it'll just end up making items more expensive at online retailers, or, at least someone else will end up with the card and have to go through the same or worse.
