Thursday night I'm playing UT2004 demo on my computer, when the screen goes black. It was unresponsive, no sound, reset switch did nothing.

Reboot, can't get it to post... just fans

I have an old geforce 2 =( ! and it always artifacted when I played UT so I thought it was either the graphics card or the motherboard.

I was hoping it was the graphics card so I could get something decent.

Well, I did notice upon closer inspection my GPU fan was dead! Spinning very slowly.. So I got a friends' comp and plugged in my card and it worked =(

Well just to rule out everything.. My chip, video card, power supply, and memory were all tested and working.

I just can't believe my motherboard died while I was using it.. I had a GA-8IHXP.

Also, my GPU fan died recently, along with one of my front case fans which I did manage to fix, and my power supply fan was making tons of noise also.

When I plugged in my memory to my bro's comp to test it I was met with beeps. We thought it was the memory at first so I plugged in his memory to my comp (same set up exactly memory and mobo) Well it didn't work so we went to put it back in his computer and beeps.. he blames my motherboard for frying his ram but I claimed he was jumping to conclusions.. We finally got all the memory working by clearing the CMOS.

Anyone else think it is relatively rare that in a short period of time a GPU fan, a mobo, and a case fan can die?

I have never had a computer die on me while I was using it, and I'm been running this system since July of 2002 never overclocked.

What brand and type is the PSU? Is it new, or an older one?

It's a duro 400W switching power supply made in 2002. Been running for about 2 years.

Should I test it? and how? I figured I would look closely at the voltages to see if they are in spec.

I thought about this.. but.

The case fan was a dirt problem and was fixed with WD40.
I didn't see how the GPU fan could be directly related to the PSU.
Motherboard is still a mystery.

Test you power supply voltages.

PS: A computer requirs some basic maintenance from time to time.

You could have mulitple fans going if you never blow out your machine. I am inferring from you that your one of those guys that has spider webs in the case once its finaly open.
