I recently made a new computer, and I used one of my hard drives as a backup. Then, i tranferred all my files back onto a different hard drive, and I want to clear up the backup hard drive of everything.
Is there a way to format/erase it without having to do some bootup discs or something? I tried clicking format (right click HD, format), but it says I have to close some programs on that hard drive that I have no idea what is running.
I just want a blank hard drive, no OS on it. Can I just click delete for all files or something? thanks

I assume you've tried rebooting machine and formatting the drive? There is a program called Eraser than will erase the drive, but will have the same problems if something is being accessed on that drive. Your other option (and much better IMO) is to use Dban and erase the drive. It is an ISO that you burn to a CD, then boot up your machine and select the proper drive (so you might want to disconnect the main drive for now) and erase it that way.
