My sig computer has lost it's raid array(both disks I think) and I'm wondering If i can fold on it without one. I have a 4GB flash drive that I could install some sort of client on if such a thing is available. I'm getting a laptop soon so I'm not sure if I'll rebuild my old system or not, but I would like to see it being productive.

Yes I have 4 boxen right now that are doing this.

As you can tell I'm a big fan of diskless folding and using the notfred CD in particular. Diskless folding either SMP or standard client (the notfred CD will automatically load the right client for your cpu) using the notfred CD is the easiest, fastest and the "no brainiest" (?) way I've ever seen of folding.
ATM I've got 2x (two) E6600's using the notfred CD's (no HD's in either), they're LinSMPing away very happily. In my limited experience I don't think it matters which WU you get because it gets about about the same ppd as if you had a real live HD.
I haven't used the notfred CD any other way other than by using the CD and an optical drive. I've heard you can install it other ways. You can remove the optical drive after the boxen starts folding. I used the same DVD writer to get both my diskless machines folding. (ATM I only have one spare DVD writer)
Now on the "flash drive deal." I have a flash drive on one boxen and none on the other (ATM I only have 1x (one) flash drive, kinda' overkill because it's a 8x GB'er, hell, you could probably get by with an old 64 MB'er). I would highly recommend using a flash drive for 2x (two) reasons 1) probably the main reason, if you have a power failure, reboot or shut your boxen down for some reason your WU progress is saved for the next time you start folding 2) you don't get the annoying message "hard drive is corrupted, not backing up (no shite man, there ain't no freakin' HD)) on your monitor when you just happen to hook one up to the diskless boxen.

Go to the http://reilly.homeip.net/folding/cd.html URL, answer the questions, download the image, burm to a CD, set your machine to boot from CDROM, boot up your machine and away you go. No fuss, no muss, like I said above even a "mentally retarded rock" could do it

It folded all weekend but I think I'm on notfred's team. I'll make another CD and get fixed up with the [H] team asap. I also bought the Gateway P6860FX from Best buy this weekend when it went on sale so I'll get it going as well. Thanks for the input, i think I'll switch out my 4GB flash and put in my old 256 MB since it will do the trick just as good.
