Is it possible to have a folding server to netboot from over the internet? I know nothing about this, but it would be nice.

Mage, let's netboot the whole frigging interent! Gonna be needing more ram for this one, for the whole internet 256 maybe?

In theory, possibly maybe kinda somehow iffy if might work. Talk about a security nightmare.

Actually a hardware VPN tunnel with the fold server on the same subnet might work. Might...

PXE- Pre something Enviroment. It's the deal on NIC's that make them net boot.

While technically possible, it'd be a pain in the butt. The machines all save to a nfs mount, and that'd have to be over whatever connection you have. Saving would involve your upstream bandwidth. So how are the numbers? The average WU probably takes 3 or 4 megs (just throwing some numbers out there), and gets saved every hour. So, if you have 384 upstream, it'll take about 1:15 to save for one machine. It would completely swamp the connection for this time, too - browsing would go to crap, etc.

God forbid that you have 60 machines on this connection
