I have been running fold at home the past few days as doing something constructive with my idle systems while I am away. However, my system is set to log out after a specific amount of idling, which brings me back to the Windows XP logon screen. However, when I return my computer is usually locked up or the mouse lags at least 60 seconds behind the movement. Waiting a few minutes does nothing and I am forced to hard-restart. I will have to un-install if this problem continues and I dont want to do that....any suggestions?
 
Try installing the console version and have it run as a service? That way the process is being run by System, and it will run when nobody is logged in as well. I don't know what is causing your problem though.

 
I would suggest that maybe running Prime95, or Memtest would be a good start. F@H has this ability to find instability that otherwise goes undetected. Also, do you have any way of monitoring your temps, and have your PC overclocked?

 
if you want to look at your settings...

go to desktop, left click, properties, screen saver, power saving..

and then there are options there for system standby/hdd standby etc
which might be why it "logs" out

one thing to look at (unless thats how you want your computer to function.. then just ignore this post ;))
 
I dont think it is a stability issue but I will test, it runs for a long while as long as I dont let it log out. (also, it logs out due to the fact that I don't want people messing around while i'm not here :) )
 
Well as an additional suggestion, if you are using the Welcome screen, try changing it to the default NT logon screen. You can do this by going into Control Panel -> User Accounts, and selecting the Change the way users log on or off option. You can disable it here, and if you've got no accounts other than your own, I recommend disabling fast user switching as well. Just makes for that much less stuff running in the background.
