I've folded in the past but never really completed a lot of assignments.

This weekend I just purchased a Q6600 from microcenter for $199, and I would like to put my system to some good use. I'm a bit confused on which client I should download here.

I'm currently running the top client which is the graphic console 5.03. I went through the config and selected

Core Priority
Slightly higher

My machine is running only about 20-30% of my cpu.

I've read and searched a bit on this site and it mentions downloading the smp file. Can someone give me a little more info on this. I'm planning on installing this both on my primary and secondary rig which both run vista 64. I set the team to #33 so now I'm part of the club:D.

I tried installing the 5.91 beta 6 (7th windows icon from top) for vista 64 which is the SMP client.

I click on the windows icon and I select save to desktop screen. The file is on my desktop screen which is 4.79mb and is named Folding@Home Windows SMP client. I then proceed to double click the icon and I select the run option. I get an error that only gives me the choice of OK

Error

The data section of this self-extracting file has been damaged.
(CRC Error: Shouldbe2D28B3CF, is8AAD9F81)

I also try to running the program instead of saving it to my desktop, and I get the same error.

Are you an admin on the Vista machine?

turn off UAC (User Account Control). You can turn it on again when you are done.

Install to something other than the default directory. Like this: c:\folding

good luck!

You'll get more points if you install vmware server, and run two Ubuntu command lines VMs, each one doing SMP folding. Only thing is you'll want to set folding VMs to low priority in windows when gaming (or all the time). I hear you can also use affinity changer to run two SMP clients, each one assigned to a pair of cores.\
