A few weeks ago, when I got back to my hometown on break from college, I found out that my boss at the local Ford dealership (where I did a lot of summer computer / network work), Jay, was just diagnosed with cancer. It was already spread in a way that makes it likely to end his life. He's got 3 little kids and a wife, but i dread the thought of those kids growing up without him. Although there is hope still with treatments.

So I don't know why i didn't think to tell him right away, but today i mentioned to him about Folding@Home, and how it worked, and so on. So now he wants me to fold on all the computers at the two locations and his home computer. For today add 2 ghz and 866mhz to the [H]orde, say a little prayer for Jay (if you're inclined to do so), and tomorrow I will be adding several more boxen for the [H]orde... and especially for Jay.

sad to hear and prayers to the family. Most of [H]ardocp fold for the simple reason that someone they know fell victim to a disease which Folding@Home can possibly cure. My grandmother died of cancer and my grandfather of Alziemer's so in a way I am folding for them.
