I need a mATX mobo that will support a 3.0+ northwood/prescott with OC ability...

All its going to do is fold protein... on board features a plus

any ideas ?

Understand that I am asking this out of pure curiosity, but why are you buying a computer to fold, and only to fold? I'm not disagreeing with this idea, as I have seen many do it before (and btw, there are a huge amount of folders in here!), however I've never thought to ask.

As for your "which mobo", I'd just check newegg and read the reviews, but that's me :D

Edit: the board has been having some problems in different areas of the country lately, so it is entirely possible that many of those who would respond to this are currently unable to access the forum.

why would I use my money to buy a machine just for a single purpose... Thats easy. I want the whole cancer thing gone. If enough geeks would share this vision, there may be a cure found.
Instead, there are folks who build a machine for the sole purpose of surfing and bragging to their bros because they have a full 600 to 1000 mhz OC at idle w/ stock voltage... wow. I'm looking for machines that can run that under a 100% load without booting for weeks on end. Hell, I"m looking for a computer that can do it, stock, period and still do decent production.

Is there a cure out there... dont know, but I sure hope so.

I spend my money here feeding my geekness building fast computers from loose parts called hobbits on a cheap hub/P2P network. Does my hobby intrigue folk because I spend thousands for a project that doesnt include a 20K score on MadOnion?

I cannot do more to make you understand other than ask you this...
Have you ever lost anyone to cancer? I've lost a few...

I have read the reviews on Newegg already... I'll thank you guys for the noob response.

I find it strikingly funny how even the least knowledged person can pipe in and offer a ridiculous answer to a lodgical question and think he has done a service... well other than to his/her post count.

Perhaps I should consider asking on a less 1337 forum... so I can get a real answer.

Hey, I started the post saying I was asking out of curiosity, meaning that I had never really thought about it and wanted your input. I can see that you are very pationate about this, and I can respect that; no need to get testy. I will refrain from making comments geared towards learning something I know nothing about from now on... :(

P.S. I fold 24/7

Whoa man, whats with the "you guys" bit. Anybody can see insanarchist was genuinely curious and i had actually offered an idea. Gentler nextime

testy ? nah.
gentler, never... I would expect Intel quasi experts to just know and say, "dude... it isnt possible unless you go ATX and then I would recommend a XXX brand." Instead I get worthless dribble from you as a hardness supreme.... thanks for your +2 post count.

You ask how a person would build a machine just to fold, but you fold. Clearly you havent been pulled into it. hehe
Thanks for your help, really.

my comments are geared more towards the read the reviews comments.

You asked for "ideas" and you got one. If you're too lazy to do your research, just say so, i would have respected it and stayed out of this thread.

Grow up troll

reply all you want because i won't be seeing it ;)

Mobile Celerons and Celeron-Ds are awesome overclockers. Not sure how they do with folding though, but with "dumb" tasks that don't require much cache they own (like divx and mpeg encoding).

The P4S800-MX defaults at 1.6-1.65V and is fine for taking a Celeron-D 2.4GHz to 3.2GHz and beyond. Too bad it doesn't have voltage settings, though it's locked and can change the FSB by a single MHz.

phagbag, troll... huh  phagbag, I understand... your immature and you need to insult me, fine. Troll? how do you figure?

grow up, child... and you should edit your response before your father sees your using his computer again.

I'm not being lazy... I was looking for help. So I guess the only way to ask a question here without some snob insulting you is to state that your an MCSE certified geek with hardware engineering degrees so folks will take you serious.... Or... have thousands of post counts that are probably just more dribble.

Jet, you state the obvious... check newegg and read reiviews, like its a knee jerk response. Checking the reviews is what I did first... I guess i should have stated that.

grow up and thicken your skin.

I saw that one... I've read where there are a few bad bios and USB issues ( from different Google sites ) I guess any board could do that and re-flash could fix most.

A Celeron still folds like crazy as it is a dumb proggie, but if I choose to sell it or trade it later, celerons just dont hold their value enough.

Computing hardware, in general, doesn't hold value well.
