Flattening Side Panel

I just started modding and I bought a real cheap case to start out on. I wanted to do the mirror finish paint job on the case, but the case had the little vents that are like punched through the metal. I decided that I could just hammer the little dent vents flat and then fill the remaining spaces with bondo. Except that in my haste and excitement I ended up warping the side panel.

Any advice on making the panel flat so I can paint it and get the good mirror finish?

Wow, don't know for sure about that one. Maybe have somebody with a car run over it real slow like. Prolly want to lay down some newspaper or something and line the panel up right so the tire(s) don't squish the notches in it. That's the only thing I can think of. Good Luck.

I doubt that you want to, but you should probably just buy a new case if they were really cheap and try again.

probably no way to get it perfect, but you might try heating it with a torch and try bending it back into shape. that or break down and buy a new one

A. clean it off, heat it, heat it, heat it, (dont burn dont melt just get it hot, put it on a flat surface (preverably heavy steal plate) and hammer down, with something between the case and the hammer (wood would work, lead brick would be nice, more steal plate works)

B. find some one to do this for you, try a macheen shopt maybe some place that does custom car work. Hell if they do any fabrication they may have a good survace to hammer with and on, and maybe even an english wheal to smoth it out

C cut out the parts you dont like, and wheald new peaces in,

D. just bend it over your leg and deal with the fact that its not as cool as you would like.

good luck

christ you guys it just a warp in the metal.

Get a hammer/dolly set from harbor freight for $20.................and hammer it out if it's "that" bad.........if it's just a small warp, forget about it.

You guys are tellin him to do things that are wayyy to extreme for what needs fixin.

agreed.

if you don't want to spend any more money, just get a rubber mallet from a friend, family member, your own garage if you have one. Then hammer away. Use a 2x4 in between the panel and the mallet though.

thanks a lot guys. I'm gonna try the rubber mallet approach, but I think I'll just deal with it. Thanks again.

what i would do is just pick up some bondo or body filler or whatever and fill it in and sand it that would be easy as hell.. but thats just me and i am lazzzzzy

it's more work and takes longer to bondo then to use a rubber mallet, or really any other method mentioned above. Bondo is by far the most time and energy costing method around.

sorry to burst your bubble ;)

ok, i have a question and since this thread seems to be right on target with my question i might as well ask it here...

i have a Thermaltake Xaser II 5000 case, no window, but i plan to add one sometime down the road. now, my concern is the side panel and it's raised face, i'm not sure if i can just cut through it or if i should hammer it out or what. i'll let you guys be the judge, here's a pic of the case from thermaltake.com

http://www.thermaltake.com/images/products/cases/5000/case5000a.jpg

now, what do you guys think? i've been thinking about doing a circular shaped window with red cathodes inside.

edit: i apologize for stealing thermaltake's bandwidth. :(

i think actually cutting out the embossed logo would look cool :)

but no, i wouldn't pound that out, it won't work right. Bondo might actually be your friend in this case, though I'll let someone with more hands on experience in this matter than I handle that.

edit: also don't hotlink images, stealing bandwidth is bad, mmkay.

The only problem youll have with the case is, there will be a gap on your window. Weather th e imprint on the case was "inny or outty" your window wont sit right on the case.
