flat panel with no ghosting

what speed for a flat panel wont give u any ghosting, i got $250 to spend on one and getting a 6800gt and later another one running in sli. is this even possible? i was just gonna go CRT without questioning it but i see on a lot of sites they focus on LCD's and kind of push CRT's to the side...

no ghosting on my L2335 its a 16ms panel. Ive seen some 25ms panels and they have very slight ghosting. Stick with anything below 16ms

yea, but thats all i can put down for one, it seems like a decent amount of money for a monitor (i thought it was kind of alot) but i can't even find a good CRT for the money

Might I suggest taking a look at some used monitors. You can pick up some really good deals on bigger CRT units that will work just fine for you. Doubtful you’re going to find a used LCD suitable for game playing.

Most towns have a computer recycling company, or you have one in a town near you. Try a local “users group” for some help in finding one.

Sometimes this is a good long-term answer to short term bucks

yeah thats really not much money to work with, better off getting like a 17-19" crt if ur on a budget, i just spent $825 on my 20.1 inch LCD. if u could splurge a little more this LCD from newegg is AWESOME, i had it for about a year, just sold it to buy my 20.1", i believe its a 12ms screen, newegg doesnt specify, but i had absolutely no ghosting at all, and the screen is really bright which was nice, u dont wanna end up with a dark screen. this one is $330 tho, but u can get a refurb one form newegg for $286 also

i guess i got to go CRT, i am not going to waste a 6800gt on a 15 inch screen....i was just wondering if a flat panel was an alternative but i guess it isnt.......i'm gonna go for a 19 inch monitor for i can play games at 1600x1200, i was thinking about the viewsonic P95f+b ( i think thats the name) it is $245 on the egg and does 1600x1200@85hz which is a big plus but i hate those lines

i dont know about u but i would rather have a $200 screen and a $400 card then a $600 screen and onboard video..........screen isnt so much of a KEY component of computer performance, its just a window that shows a damn picture, i think its silly to spend a lot on one but if u have the money, by all means, go for it. my budget is $2000 for a gaming computer, that is not alot considering i need every single part, a case, monitor, printer, keyboard, mouse, and speakers/head set!(and i cant raise the price because thats just an estimate including my own money, parents money, and christmass money. and i am only 15 so my budget isnt really expandable) sure i could go cheap on some stuff and get a really nice monitor and rave about it, but i still wont be able to play any games with my computer, but hey! at least solitaire will look great!

IMO a display can be just as important as your video card, and in some cases can be more so. Some professionals require very nice displays for the work (CAD, Photo/Art etc.) Others like me requests nice displays for gaming and such. I am not saying everyone needs a nice display, some people just would not use it, but I think most gamers say they would like a nice big display with good specs.

200 bucks:

200 bucks for and LCD is not going to give you a gaming LCD display. Wile you can find some LCDs that are close to 200 bucks they are not going to have the specs you are looking for in a gaming LCD. The only thing you are looking at with this budget is CRT.

no ghosting LCD:

Does not really exist. All LCDs ghost, but LCD with fast response times don't do it as much, and with some people they can not see it at a certain level of response time. In my experance a nice LCD with a 16ms responce time is good for gaming. with anything faster being better.

I'm going to have to agree with the above poster in that the screen is as/more important than the graphics card. Now, a $250 crt isn't bad and will look great, I'm just saying on principle. What's the point of having something run fast if it looks like shit? The monitor is what you are going to judge your entire computer by, as 90% of the experience is visual...so all I'm saying is dont' skimp on a display or you'll be sorry (plus, a display is one of the few long term investments you'll make with computers).

well, i kind of felt that CRT monitors were getting shunned out a bit and made this post to see if i could get a half decent LCD for the price. and i dont know but i still think $250 is kind of alot for a monitor and any CRT in that price range should show a good picture no matter which one u get and that u shouldn't have any geometry problems with one. i am basically going to use this computer to game, nothing else really and to me a graphics card is more important then the monitor, performance wise.

and just cause im not gonna spend $800 on a monitor doesnt mean its gonna look like shit, ur using ur monitor to compensate for ur shity vid card but i am gonna get a good picture out of my monitor and still have a great vid card

i completely dis-agree, u can get a good enough card for $200 as in a 9800pro, and a $400 monitor. think about it, u get a $400 card that does awesome gaming at 1600x1200 but can only run ar 1024x768? whats the point? u can get a most mid-ranged cards to run perfect on new games at 1024. its not just a window that shows a picture, buy a good monitor and u will realize that, try starring at a 17" CRT thats blurry as hell for 5 hours, then look at a 20.1" lcd thats crisp and clear, and that comment will never come out of your mouth again. in my opinion it was very stoopid to get that good of a video card and then buy a pos monitor, gfx change all the time, i have bought 3 gfx cards in past 2 years, and 1 monitor. ur monitor is gonna last longer than your gfx card for sure.
