I was wondering if we have anyone that is well versed in the ways of flash. I was over at the folding- community.org website and noticed that some teams are making promo videos to enlist new recruits. I saw one that was very good and thought where is ours? I have only just started to play with flash at home and therefore not really suited for this task. I am hoping that we have someone who is! I may give it a go since this would be a good opportunity to learn while doing something I am interested in. Again I am sure there are others more capable than I.
This may be a good tool to beat those Aussie’s into a more suitable position. :p

if you make one, CF, make sure it's cross-platform. We can use mac and linux folders, too.

The file is flash. I think Macromedia supports all platforms, but you do have to have flash installed on your pc. :)

Good idea! Think they would be interested? I'll ask and see if we get any bites. :D

Well....(deep subject)...So far I haven't had any bites or interest for that matter.
The post I made there is just moving down the list. :(

it's an exe flash, I'm on linux most of the time. exe is a no go unless I install WINE or something. Releasing a plain swf is better for me, and you could just start it in a browser rather than make people download it and then run it.

edit: moved to a windows box, looks nice indeed. I kept expecting "Coming Spring 2005" somewhere in there.

It's looking like there are no volunteers to do this, i'll have to give it a try myself. I will take your advice and save it as a swf file though.

Surely there must be someone better to do this than I.

i watched the first one posted, looks good. something like that would be great for the [h]orde

I'm not flash inclined....but I will storyboard something if helps the [H]orde. Just ask and thou shalt recieve.

I would probably storyboard it in powerpoint. It would help get a feel for the animations.

what is this "storyboard" you speak of...?

Well, this flash is going to be like a commercial, flow like a video. I can't do flash, but what I can do for it is to make a powerpoint "storyboard' with a script and music that is a close representation of the finished flash product. Then, someone who can do flash can take the powerpoint and use it as a guide to build the flash.

Lemme see! Lemme see!! I would very much like to have others ideas on how it should look. This is a represention of who, what, and why we do this (folding) thing that we do!
The more input we have the better it will be.

Come one, come all and be a part of the Folding@[H]orde video! :D

Quick and dirty teaser trailer...
"borrowed some images" and did this quick.

Also borrowed the "Fact" flow thing from vagina monologues.. :D

Come and rape my bandwidth

*Edit*Also, no sound as I am at work and the whole noise things cause a distraction to all the drone computer users in the clusters

*Another Edit* Color comes in with the "happy" part. Make em feel bad first with dark colors, then cheer em up with birghts when they realize they have the power to make change

*Edit number 3* Did this in powerpoint 2003, so if you can't view it, not my fault

I like what you have so far! A suggestion: let the images speak for themselves, remove the (help me) line. Peoples imagination is far more powerful than a statement under a picture.

Otherwise very good, I like your thinking.

Like is said, rough, done in probably 10 minutes. I was thinking....for a very spooky effect. Have 3 help me voices...the first creepy, the sencond less creepy, and the third a regular childs, and play them in order over the pictures. Also, if i'm going to actually do this, I need real legit pictures, not borrowed ones. I want more then just showing pictures...I want people to relate in a way that makes them feel some responsibility.

I was also thinking....I can make an actual movie, .avi style. Not a flash, but would it work as well in what you intend to use it?

Sure, it doesn't have to be flash. Just thought it may be a little more web friendly.

Where do you plan to get (legit) images?

I have no idea. Was hoping perhaps someone could aquire them for me, since I'm cutting the video....I could use some help with some stuff.

Ooh.....shivers.....you mean going to the cancer ward in person and taking pics.

Give a description of the images you have in mind. Will try and aquire said images.

Yeah, images of kids, and adults with said diseases, both happy and sad. Also videos of similar things would be nice, since its going to be a video now.

On the video note, what about a streaming mpg?

Not famillar with streaming mpg? In the end all that it needs, is to be resonable in size. Would an mpg have the abillity to be viewed by anyone? I mean does it matter what version you have, .....and such.

Mayhem33, since you haven't gotten any nibbles yet from Digital Artwerk, I moved your thread on over to Webmastering & Programming. Artwerk is more for Photoshop and 3D type stuff, hopefully you'll get some response from the W&P crowd. :)

I would also suggest not using an .exe file. Just embed the .swf file in a web page or however you do it to set it to launch automatically in your default media player. Too many people (myself included) don't want to download an .exe because of potential viruses and all. I'd rather just view it online and not have to worry about deleting a downloaded .exe after viewing.
