First Video Card OC

I currently have an evga 7900gs that I've been running for years now:

256Mb RAM
1380MHz Memory Clock
500MHz Core Clock

I have a Zalman VF900 cooler on it and it runs quite cool.

I think I'll be capable of running it at a higher core clock while retaining stability.

Problem is, I've never OCed a video card before.

Where do I begin?

I would choose MSI Afterburner. Its easier to use then RivaTuner and great for a beginner. Keep in mind it does not matter your card is not MSI.

+1 for afterburner. i used rivatuner as well and found the msi utility far easier to work with.

Another vote for MSI Afterburn. Very easy to use, but so is Rivatuner, it's just got a few more steps in the process.

I love Riva Tuner also but its not at all as easy to use. Just getting your own fan curve in place is a long process. Afterburner simplifies all this and is a great utility.

you should be able to get near 600 on the core without a vmod and with one a lot more. the mem may have some more in it too.

I like EVGA Precision for its simplicity but I like RivaTuner more for its ability to do fan profiles.

For starting out I suggest the MSI Afterburner as mentioned above. I'm using it as I haven't the urge to dive in and really tweak on my cards with RivaTuner. Yet.
