First trinity build ... Need Advice

Hey all ...

I am currently looking at building a trinity setup for my mother as an upgrade to her ancient pc ...

She is not a heavy gamer (plays older dx9 games) and uses the pc for browsing and video chatting ...


I was thinking of this setup --

A10-5800k
ASRock FM2A85X-ITX
PSU Antec Earthwatts 450 Platinum (looking for a decent modular though so far only the be quiet SP E9 CM 580w matches up for the price)
Bitfenix Prodigy (only decent itx case in my country apart from the CM120 Elite)



All I need is memory but I am battling to get anything at a decent price that is above 1600mhz ... I am trying to get 1866+


Does that build seem ok or is there an intel/amd non trinity build that would be more powerful for a similar price tag.



All information would be greatly appreciated.

I think that build is actually perfect for her needs. PSU could actually be smaller, but you want modular so that limits your choices. There is no "noticable" difference for ram over 1600 so I wouldn't worry about getting anything higher. I would actually just get 1333 which will fit her needs nicely. Slap a SSD in there and she'll think that thing can fly.

Also by comparison, I built my mom a computer with hammy down parts a few years ago: 2GB ddr400 ram, a64x2 3800+, 80GB IDE hard drive and she thought the computer was super fast.
 
The AMD Trinity build is fine as long as you don't add a discrete video card.

Stick with the cheaper DDR3 1333 or DDR3 1600 RAM. You don't really need faster RAM nor should you overclock the system for your mother. 8GB is plenty.

I don't know enough about the Be Quiet! power supply to recommend it over the Antec.

I know the Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced isn't the easiest case to work in, but would your mother prefer the smaller size and lighter weight?
 
She has no preference to case size to my knowledge as long as she doesn't have an office divider like mine (raven 02-e) ... lol ...

I was told that trinity benefits from faster memory ... was this incorrect ? ...

I would love to build my mom a SFF build ... but the choices I have in my country are terrible ...

best options are -

CM120 Elite
Prodigy
PS05 (not sure if a normal psu fits in that)
 
PS05? Is that from Silverstone? (If so, don't you mean the SG05?)

From what I read, AMD Trinity does benefit from faster memory, but there isn't a significant level of improvement with DDR3 1866 RAM over DDR3 1600 RAM. Your mom wouldn't notice the difference in her everyday tasks; her new system will be notably faster than her old one.

She would see a more notable performance boost if you were to buy her a (good) SSD per Mccaula718's guidance.
 
Sorry I meant SG05 ... lol ... Have no clue why I typed PS05 ... :confused:

SSD's are insanely priced in my country ... Looking at 1500 bucks for a 128gb which would be great but my mom isn't so computer literate so she would probably fill the 128 in a moments notice then wonder why she is out of space ... that is why I was opting for a single 1tb drive

How good is the SG05 ? ...
 
Actually, the 300 watt SFX (small form factor) PSU that is bundled with the SG05 is more than enough for your system. Depending on the cost of the SG05 in your country, it could be better (if not cheaper) than buying a separate SFF case and PSU. Then again, you have to buy a slim (notebook/laptop) optical drive and some sort of adapter (cable), which tend to cost a bit more than a standard 5.25 inch optical drive.

For the hard drive, go for one of the newer Western Digital or Seagate 1TB drives. Or, you could find the cheapest 1TB 7200RPM SATA drive available. But the newer WD/Seagate drive performs better (simply put, they're based on a single 1TB drive platter).
 
I second or third the SG05 looking at doing a similar build for my sisters but funds are real low right now so i will probably have to wait until kaveri.
