Gonna take the dive into water cooling and I hope someone with more experience than me, would look over my plans and give me some feedback.
(main goal is silence)

shopping list:

Cooler Master 690 II Advanced 100% kickass product :D

DCP 2.2 let me know if I need to get the 4.0 instead.. I took this one for the lower noise levels

XSPC RS240 BLACK I would like a rad at the top inside of the case and that means max 35mm thick. I hope this one will do the trick

EK-Supreme HF - Acetal nice reviews and will fit lots of sockets

EK-FC6870 - Nickel reviews say that stock cooling on the asus 6870 is a noisy deal so I guess I will have to throw some water at it

Masterkleer 13/10mm UV - BLACK nice reviews.

10/13mm Screw On Fitting G1/4 they are cheap.. I have no idea if they are any good.. do you know?

XSPC Single 5.25" Bay Reservoir (Alu Front) looks nice but I have been unable to find reviews on this bay.. only the larger one

NB Blacksilent XL1 rev.3 120mm 1 as exhaust at the back of the case

Noiseblocker NB-Blacksilent XK1 1 as intake at the front of the case.. 2 as exhaust on the top over the radiator

Bitspower ¼" BSPP (G¼) -T-adapter - Black for drain

I'd recommend more tubing. It's good to have extra on hand and you can always use it later if you need to swap it out for whatever reason or if you make mistakes, etc.

And absolutely don't skimp on the fittings. Not sure on quality of the ones you are getting, but "cheap" shouldn't be one of the criteria :D. This is because these are the joints where everything is getting connected. If you're gonna spring a leak, it'd be on the fittings.
 
Man if only I had known the RX240 is too thick to mount up top in the CM 690 II Advanced before i purchased. You sir are going to avoid the problem I had in regards to getting a rad that is not too thick for top mounting
 
I see a GPU block and a CPU block and a not so thick 240mm rad. What CPU are you trying to put on water? A 240 rad may not be enough for what you're trying to do (silence). You may need another 120, especially if that's an i7 and especially if overclocked.

You can always put another 240mm rad at the bottom of that case but it might get a little cramped for space inside. I agree with the others that you'll probably need a little more rad. Tho the Q6600 isn't a HUGE heat dump, for silence rad surface area is your best friend. I'm running 2 240mm swiftech rad's on a overclocked quad and a 5870 and it handles the load very well with low fan speeds.
 
If I add a RX240 to the bottom of the case will that be enough for future upgrades also?
(another 6870 and a new cpu,maybe i5-750) or would another RS240 be enough?

Or should I just get the RX240 instead of a RS240 in the first place and mount it at the bottom and that 1 rad would be enough? (cheaper)
 
You could get one dual 120mm rad now, and then always add more later should you feel the need,
 
If you want black tubing, just buy Tygon R3400, costs about 1.50 a foot at SidewinderComputers......enough said.

Buy good BitsPower fittings whether barbs or compressions. I like compressions.

Don't use antifreeze, arrrrrgh, gunk city. Plain distilled water and two IandH kill coils will be just fine, and crystal clear.

I prefer the swiftech micro-res, small and easy to drain and fill. Bay reservoirs are very difficult to drain and fill and they don't bleed air very well at all. the micro-res is so small you can put it anywhere in the case a zip tie can go.

I would not even watercool the CPU if that's all the OC you use. just cool the GPU and call it a day, you can use only one radiator then.

do you know for a fact that antifreeze (as in car coolant) will result in gunk in the loop? I have read that many ppl have used it for years without any problems :confused:
I would oc more if I could, but any more than that silly 300mhz and the system does not post.

You could just use distilled water with a little coolant and algaecide.

Those look like cheap EK compression fittings.
I guess you're european?
In that case use what you can find there. I think those EKs would be OK, but I prefer BitsPower.
If money is an issue, use barbs and herbie clips instead of compressions....again buy BitsPower.

Yes.....antifreeze will eventually deposit on your tubes and blocks.
I have experience with this, that's why I use distilled water and silver coils only.....there is no need to add anything else.

My pleasure.
You can make your own coils. I buy silver metal strips on ebay, wash them in alcohol and weak acid and then fashion a coil using about 8 cm of silver strip.

I generally place one coil in my reservoir and one in thr top of the radiator.

You can place the coil directly inside a tubing as well.
