Hi.

I bought my first SSD about five days ago. I enabled AHCI and then installed windows.
After that I did everything in this guide:

Even though he didn't explain what some settings are that you enable/disable, so I didn't really know what I was doing.
After having some problems with the firewall turning off at boot and making webbrowsing very slow I decided to reinstall windows.

But this time I found this:

So far I have done the folowing:

-Disabled indexing on C: (SSD)

-Disabled hibernation

-Disabled system restore function

I did not:

-Disable Prefetch & Superfetch

-Disable pagefile

In the above forum thread they said that you should not disable Prefetch & Superfetch because it is needed for mechanical HDDs and even if it is enabled it will automatically be disabled for SSDs.
I also found that you don't really need to disable sheduled defragmentation because it won't defrag the SSD, only the HDDs if you have any.
And I think that's true because the SSD is not even listed when I click "select disks" in the disk defragmenter.

Do you think it is enough what I have done so far? Should I not disable prefetch & superfetch and the pagefile?

Windows 7 handles most of this now, nothing to worry about really.

The only additional step I did was format the drive with 20Gb (<10%) free at the end for garbage collection even if the disk is completely full.
 
All you need to do to install and use Windows 7 on an SSD:

1. Install Windows 7
2. Use it like you normally would on a hard disk

Disabling hibernation is fine, and actually good because it frees up space, and system restore is really your call - there is no reason to disable it, but it doesn't hurt anything if you do. But the best advice is what Unknown-one said - install and use it like you would any other drive.
