I am SO glad I finally found an active mATX case/board forum. I was searching around trying to get into on upcoming 965/975/570/590 Conroe motherboards and stumbled upon this forum. I got to reading the "List of know good mATX motherboards" thread and knew that I had found Shangri-la at last. :)

Just a little about me ... been building my own systems since the 486 days. Mostly for gaming use. My first REAL upgrade was to the 486 itself so I could get the best out of Ultima VII. I turned to SFF when I bought my current P4 2.4C (Northwood) and put it in a Shuttle SB65G. I was never really happy with that box though ... to loud and to hot no matter what I did. I eventually switched over to my Aria last year (see sig for details) and have never looked back.

I was a bit concerned about a lack of REAL GOOD mATX boards till I came here. Yeah they might not hit the sceene till Sept or so but it does look like there are some good boards with nice chipsets coming and plenty of OC goodness.

Anwyho, there is my story and I'm sticking to it ..... till its time for an upgrade at least.

So I'm pegging you at at least 35... ;) Yes, it is a pretty solid forum. I am on a lot of boards and there isn’t anything close. It seems to collect all the wandering SFF souls. D’s sticky is invaluable. There are some unlisted 945 Biostar boards that support C2D - check their web-site.

I am curious, what is this in your sig: “case w/120mm intake mod (Tek-Chain)”

Yes, it is an active forum. Just be aware that many folks have different opinions about what makes an SFF an SFF. :) But we have fun here. Welcome.

The 120mm fan was just for intake and to blow some cool air directly across the mem/hd and catch some of it for use on the 6800GT. I also replaced the PSU fan with the same 120mm. Both have speed adjustments that are access by removing the top (I never change them myself). Both run at about 1200rpm and are not audible (to me). In fact the only thing that ever is audible is the DVD when it spins up and the muffled "ticking" of the HDs during heavy use.

I need to go back and smooth out the edges of the hole, but its not on my "high priority" list. I'll probably get to it when I upgrade in Sept/Oct.

And just to cast my vote, anything that barely fits a mATX board (or smaller) is a SFF .... cube being the preferd shape of course! ;P

:eek: you're almost twice my age!

and to put u up to speed about the different views about what's sff, it's either size or motherboard form factor. some people say if it's small enough, it's sff, no matter what type of mobo it takes, while others say if it takes a full atx board stock then it's not sff, even if it's the same size as other cases that take matx boards.

And great job on cutting that fan hole, It looks great, have you considered just adding edge molding to it?
 
Yeah, after I smooth the hole out a bit, some molding might be a good idea. Any ideas what to use? Keep in mind the Aria case is a little thick (2cm???) because of the sound padding between interior and exterior walls. Maybe I can find a Desk Grommet to slide in there?

Oh and I am seriously thinking of getting the new Aria (NSK 1300) when I upgrade later this year so if anyone is interested in the case, let me know!
 
but if you're covering the hole w/ molding, you don't need to smooth out the edges :p
 
No one noticed when a friend of mine duct taped the a new front bumper onto the Ferrari he was working on at the car shop either....hehehe.....

Thats just wrong, if i am paying for a professional job i expect it to be done the right way. And in no way does Duct tape count as either professional or the right way to fix a car.
