I just jumped my Q6600 up to 2.7ghz and prime95 has been running for 10 min. and my NB seems to be extremely hot. My processor is running at 45c while my NB is running at 55c. Is that normal? After seeing that I intend to slap on that tiny little fan that came with the mobo but am leery of that because the instructions say that doing so will actually make things worst for my processor. How hot can a NB go?

Update:

I fixed my NB problem but now I can't seem to get past 2.8ghz. Here are my settings:

FSB: 1333 (quad-pumped)
Memory Timing: 5-5-5-15
vCore: 1.35v
Memory Voltage: 2.2v
1.2v ht Voltage: 1.2v
NB: 1.4v
SB: 1.6v
CPU VTT Voltage: Auto
DDRII Controller Ref Voltage: Auto
DDR Channel A Ref Voltage: Auto
DDR Channel B Ref Voltage: Auto

Nothing seems to work in order to get it to boot. I can't even get into windows at that FSB no matter how hard I try.

I was able to run it at 2.8ghz at 55c fine, so I don't see how temps would kill it.

It's probably not heat. What board are you using? Chances are if it doesnt boot your memory is still linked to your FSB at the same multiplier it was when it was 266 --->

266x3 = DDR2-800
333x3 = DDR2-1000

and your memory can't handle it. Lower the memory clock to your rated memory speed and overclock your cpu more or less "independently".

Few things, list your fsb at regular, not quadpumped, so you are trying 333. Don't expect OC to be a whiz or miracle, your q6600 might not be able to handle 3 ghz, luck of the draw sometimes.

read stickied guides first

I read the stickies at least 6 times. What I didn't remember was with the linked and unlinked. My memory is linked and it's DDR800 so thank you for that shed of light. Hopefully I can get it up to 3.0ghz now. And yes, it is 333. I always have a calculator next to me because my BIOS doesn't do it how the guide does it and I didn't know if yall wanted what my BIOS said or the standard.

update: I just realized how horrible of a vdroop that I have. In my BIOS I set my proc to run at 1.26v and when I open up CPU-Z it shows as 1.136v. How the hell is that possible to not even get half of your voltage that you set?

Just so you know, that isn't vdroop. vdroop is the difference in voltage between idle and load. I have the same problem with my motherboard, though. In BIOS my voltage is set to 1.3675V, but the hardware monitor will read 1.248V. Under load it drops to 1.240V. That 0.008V difference is vdroop.
