First ever case mod Ideas

Getting my new case this week and I'm thinking of doing a theme along the lines of replacing "Intel Inside" with "Undead Inside" and having a half rotten hand bursting out of the top of my case (which will double as a handle) and etching a rotten face or multiple faces on a window on the side and have it lit with red or green ccfl's or LEDs. Whatd you guys think?

What material could be used as the hand, something that I could sculpt/paint and would still be tough enough to allow me to lift the case.

how about a hand from a manikin as a start. it probably wont work as is, but with a little work i think it might be strong enough.

i thought about making a mold of my hand with plaster of paris or something of the like and using fiberglass resin to actually make the hand then using the dremel etc. to change it into a rotting appendage, but I'm not so sure how the paint would adhere to it. IDK, like your idea too, just where am I gonna get a mannaquin?

Cool. I'd take it an ever so slightly different direction. Have you seen "Return of the Living Dead"? (I think that's the one - it's easy to get zombie movie titles confused)

In that movie, the zombie infection was a military biological agent that was developed in the 60's, but the project was aborted, presumably for reasons of, well, creating an infinitely greater menace than it solved
Anyway, to contain the danger they created, the infected bodies from these tests were forced/crammed/stuffed into a far-too-small rugged custom-designed military thick-steel container each, with a thick plate window on the top, and various sturdy handles and latches, warning labels, etc. Fast forward 20 years later when the movie is set, and these containers are dusty and decrepit, and the window is opaque with grime. A character in the film is curious about the barrels and wipes his hand accross the window, smearing a semi-clear patch across the glass, and freaks out to see a dessicated corpse's face pressed up against the glass, with it's hands against the window as if it was pushing on the glass.

You can totally see where I'm going with this - your computer is the heavy-duty containment unit custom-made to contain a zombie. The handles, etc are all part of the military construction. Warning labels, everything. The case window is so grimy you can't quite make out what that mess of... something is inside it, but OMFG those are teeth IT'S A CORPSE IN THERE!
(you'd only need a 2-4 inches behind the window to do it, so there is enough space - the thing is meant to look like it's packed in tight).

Of course, in the movie, the thing got out of its cannister. Maybe that's how the hand is coming out of your case - the container is breached, a plate window on top is shattered and the hand is poking through the break.

Damn that's a nice idea I LOVE that movie, it scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. MORE BRAINS!!!!

One thing ...

If you go the way of casting your own hand, make sure that you use something designed for casting bodyparts. You can cause very nasty burns if you use the wrong stuff.

I've got the hardware together but having some problems with BSOD, thats another thread however, I'll be cutting out the window this weekend and I'll pick up some plexi next week or so to start etching. If this addition of a pic works, this is the one that I'm using as a reference for my window design and building case design around the drum design.
