I have an X1900GT thats crashing when I run the core speed at anything near 513Mhz (stock).

I've concluded that the failing component is something that cannot be easily tested, perhalps the voltage regulators.

I've also concluded that a bad Power supply provided by this cards previous owner was the culprit (dont buy cheapo power supplies people!!). The power supply powering this card under its new owner will be a Silverstone Element 500W

Right now I'm running it open air with some ghetto modded fans on it to spicifically cool the voltage regulators and the surrounding areas. An Accelero X2 has been ordered and will hopefully keep the temps better in check (and quieter), but I still want to try to get this card back up to stock speeds.

Which raises the question: should I overvolt or undervolt? An increase in voltage + better cooling might mean that whatever problem will dissapear. A decrease in voltage will obviously mean less load on the voltage regulators.

edit: after seing this people might assume that the core is overheating. I do not believe this is the case as it would fail to boot under an aftermarket zalman cooler which would cool the core much better, and the surrounding components worse.

edit2: the rig its running on is the sig but replace the 8800GTS with the X1900GT in question.


the question is where can i get a copy of a v-modded bios and how can I flash it?
 
Take a look at this picture, look at the heatsink and the end of the card, if you removed that heatsink or it wasnt included when new, it causes overheating in the voltage regulators causing the card to crash.

Some user at the rage3d forums is selling aftermarket handmade aluminium heatsinks to cover this issue, if thats the problem, thats an easy fix instead of putting back the oem cooler :D

the rev 2 uses the 3rd X1900 PCB design. That is a pic of a Rev 1.

the OEM cooler is back on using a couple of rubber bands and AS5. You can pick the card up by the hs/f and it doesn't seperate even a little.

Went thru $15 of TIM getting the memory chips to contact the hs/f tho.
