Firewall to stop applications from "dialing home"

I've heard good things about Comodo.. but how is the free version for stopping outbound traffic?

In the past, I've used AVG Internet Security and it has treated me well, but my license is up and I'm looking to go with all legal software and to eliminate threat as efficiently as possible. I run both x64 and x86 machines.

How about a hardware UTM firewall that blocks all outbound connections except those explicitly allowed by you? Look at Astaro Home, install on your own hardware, the packet filter is very robust and configurable.
