I had a Hitachi 43" rear projector that was about 5 years old. bought the extended warr for it for 5 years. 2 weeks after it expired i got the dredded convergence problem. had a guy come in to fix it he replaced the conv. chip 4 times and replaced some resistors and diodes. this is all over about a months time. he decided to just give me my money back. (thank god) i took it to a repair shop and they said that it was probly a yoke taking the conv chip out. would cost me about 800 to fix. forget that.

for the last 7 months i have been watching tv on a 20" tube tv. got used to it but got some movies for xmas and they are all widescreen. totally sucks on that tv. so i decided to go get a new tv.

i thought cool now is the time to get that lcd and mount it to the wall make a nice setup for the me the wife and kids.

got the samsung LNS4041D 40" 720p lcd. brought it home hooked it all up. popped in a dvd. and was amazed. what a beautiful picture. decided to watch some football. blah what crap. i have digital cable. i thought man this should look better then this. tried to hook it up several different ways. just the regular cable. svideo, then throught the rca's. no luck still a bad picture. (my old tv's looked great).
another problem i had with it was since the widescreen looked too thin the tv has a nice feature where you could zoon in and not lose any of the picture. every once in awhile through a dvd movie (progressive scan) about 5 inches from the bottom there was like a line all the way through it and below that line the picture was shifted about 1/4" either way.
was not happy. so off to the store i went.

came home with the Samsung HLS5086W dlp 50" 720p RP. ( i didnt want to spend the extra money for the 1080p model). alot thinner then my old hitachi.
hooked it all up. threw in a dvd. very impressed. zoomed in to see if it had the same problem as the lcd. nope good to go.
next test was the digital cable. alot better then the lcd but still not as good as the tube tv. close to it but still not as sharp.i think it is better then my old hitachi but hard to tell since it has been awhile since i wacthed it. something i can live with. we watch alot of regular tv so this was more important.

the biggest pure enjoyment so far is when i got the 50" the salesman gave me a hdtv power antenna for half price. hooked it up and i was truely amazed with the picture quality. looks 100% better then the digital cable feed into the tube tv. football is gonna be freakin sweet to watch now. not to mention Lost. the anyenna was just a cheaper RCA. after i get the tv paid off (12 months same as cash) i am going to invest in an outdoor antenna. (some of the channels i live farther away from the signal is a little low)

there are so many cool features about this tv. the zoom, when viewing hdtv channels it tells me what the signal is broadcasted at (720p, 1080i). all the different connections on the back. 2 hdmi's 2 components, 2 antenna inputs nice since i wont have to have a switch for cable and the hdtv antenna just hit the button.3 sets of reg av inputs ( one on the side) pc input, digital audio out (optical) even has a usb port on it to show pictures in a slideshow or you can even play mp3's.

sorry for rambling on but this samsung dlp is very impressive so far and i have not even read the manual yet to find out all of its capabilities and settings.

only thing left to do is get a surrounds sound system, hook up the ps2 and try that out. and maybe hook up my pc and play play a little bf2142 on it.
