Probably should've paid the extra 50 bucks for rush processing, since i'm an impatient bastard, but apparantly one of my components was out of stock, so it delayed it anyway. Specs:
Battalion E-Series Centrino (AOpen 1557GL Chassis)
15" SXGA+ TFT Screen (1400x1050)
Pentium M 1.6ghz
ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 64MB
512MB DDR333 RAM
40GB 5400rpm HD
DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
More in depth info available on the chassis here. Feels pretty solid, not much if any flex to it when picked up. Seems like a pretty well-built unit. Keyboard and touchpad are most excellent.
Haven't done too much to it yet, as i've just had enough time to install windows and my usual suite of crap, but on pure batteries it lasted a hair over 4.5 hours during the whole software installation stuff. Games appear to run quite nicely, as I've only tried out UT2K3 on it so far. It's comfortable running at 1024x768 with the highest graphical settings.
Sound quality sucks, but I didnt expect much from 2 thumbtack-sized speakers. The quicklaunch buttons are very handy. Haven't tried the "SuperDJ" thing yet, but it basically lets you use the laptop as a cd player without having to turn it on.
Love the custom paintjob the IBuyPower guys did, pretty nice job all around. A few tiny bad spots, but overall pretty professional and quite reflective. Total damage done to wallet: $1633.10. Expectations: met and exceeded.
One question though .. any (cheap) way to boost the range of the wireless? I'm using ad hoc mode to connect to my desktop for ICS, and it gets pretty flakey and dies altogether after about maybe 25, 30 feet in my house. Walls are everywhere, stupid small house.
