Alright, i've decided that I really wanna upgrade my monitor. CRT was nice and all, but I think its time to retire the 17" compaq screen :D. I'm a big fan of newegg so I was looking at the sales they have going on there, and I am really liking the prices of these two;

this one &..
this one. The price difference isn't much, and they both have good customer reviews on the egg.

I will be using this monitor for gaming, movies, web browsing, a little photo editing, and I think thats about it. The big ones are games and movies. Spec wise I think the Hanns-G is "better", right?

Ah, well please let me know. I won't be dual-screening unless I wanna keep my 17" CRT, which i'm undecided about ATM. Please give me some feedback :). Greatly appreciated.

I would not recommend a Hans G for gaming and movies.

Get the Samsung.

You need to stick with name brands when it comes to electronics.

The Hanns has DVI, so I would pick that one. If this is your first LCD, you may be disappointed in the colors if you buy a 6-bit TN panel like these. You might notice it while doing photography work, especially if you have the LCD right beside your CRT.

Good name brands don't necessarily mean good products, my Samsung 740B had terrible color compared to my Dell 18." I ended up selling the Samsung and keeping the Dell for its 8-bit color, even though it ghosts more.

I haven't really heard anything negative about the Hanns G, I guess i'll wait for some more responces.

Nice name btw :)

I have a 6bit panel and its very rare that I see any problems. You might see some banding in things like fog, smoke, filtered sunshine etc. I look at a ton of photos and do a lot of video on my machine and dont notice it whatsoever other than the instances I mentioned. To me the whole 6bit vs 8bit thing is overblown unless you're doing a lot of stuff where gradients are important like photoshop work or something.

i just ordered the hanns-g yesterday, should be here any minutre, it is out for delivery, ill let you know how it is

viewsonic vp191b, its actually the model before the vp930b, essentially the same panel

Cool Polar, let me know when the monitor arrives. Will be looking forward to what you hafto see.

Tutelary: Thanks for the pics man. They look great, especially the first one. The colors look great IMO. What kind of games do you play?

Thanks everyone, the input is awesome. Helps me spend my money wisely lol.

nothing anymore. I wouldnt play on an lcd if I were a heavy gamer. I personally see ghosting very easily and can feel input lag. If you game a lot, a crt is still your best bet, quite honestly.

You know most of Dell's LCD panels are made by Samsung right?

That, or it's LG.Philips..

First of all, if you are switching to LCD even if you are a massive gamer choose a "Wide" model. Also, if you have the budget buy a >= 20" as the panels are much better.

And last, DVI is a must.

Yes, I would highly recommend getting an 8bit panel also known as 16.7 million colors, I was looking into this one; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824163129, it seems to have the specs that I want and that the op is interested in, anyone have any input on it?

I would have to believe with those specs it uses a TN which would be 6 bit + FRC if anything. But that would mean it is really 16.2 million.

The panel search says the F-419 used a P-MVA in some and that could be 8 bit but it would have bettter viewing angles than 130 / 140

Yeah, but they aren't TN panels....

Just wanted to point out that it depends on the panel tech the use..
Big company or small company it doesn't really matter as long as they follow with the spec defined.

Got the Hanns·G :). Ordered it today, 3 day shipping so Sunday-Monday I should have it. Im excited lol.

haha, i didnt even get to tell you how it is! wasnt home for first delivery and UPS said between 10:30 and 2 for the 2nd delivery, they came at 9:45  so i missed that, im going to pick it up in hour :p

I recommend samsung, strongly. Have a 191T for 3.5 yrs now and just ordered a 244T. The 191T at 25ms never gave me me issues in any application. Gaming is a joy and ghosting was never noticeable.

Opps, too late

Screen door effect looks terrible on that thing. There is a grid all over that first picture.

The pitcure of the rocks is pretty washed out too. Super bright straight on.

Yeah some tweaking should fix the brightness.

The screen door effect is that lined grid you can see in the first photo of the review. Its the LCD grid. It looks much like looking at something through a screen door does. Lower end displays will have this issue quite often.
