well, unfortunately, i think this will come out to be ~$2500. my budget is $2000.
i am gonna get sli, dont try to talk me out of it! i am probably gonna downgrade the HDD, PSU(i am not sure how much power i will need for sli) , and most likely the headphones. in doing that i estimate that i could save about ~$200 by getting a $120 psu, $120 200gb sata hdd, and $100-$150 headphones. if i do not have a choice, i will downgrade the cpu to a 3200+(if i really have to ) but for $2000 i think i can keep a 3500+. i realize the RAM is costing a good chunk of money and would really like to know what would be the difference between this OCZ stuff and that PDP (around $220)stuff with the same timings. (both have TCCD chips).

it really isnt an option to take and use anything from my current rig. its just aint gonna happen. i also do NOT want to buy and used stuff. i pretty much made up my mind about the stuff i listed so please compare anything that u downgrade with what i listed (I am easily persuaded by FACTS).

Get the Antec NeoPower, most stable Power Supply out there and quietest too.

Also, why do you need 300GB? Get a Seagate 160 SATA drive, not only is it cheaper (~$100) it is also faster according to a some websites.

$400 for headphones?!?!?!?! Damn man, either get a sound card or get something much less expensive, it is only headphones.

Change the PSU to a Antec TruePower 480W or something.

You should really change the memory to may'be corsair or crucial.

I doubt that you would ever use 300gb of space! I would downgrade that to 200gb. take a look at seagate's SATA 200gb drive.

I would never pay that much for headphones...get yourself some speakers and a soundcard...$250 tops. Look at Sound Blaster Audigy 2 and for speakers look at logitechs x-620.

Do you really need a Floppy? Honestly. There's 7 bucks off. lol.

I'm pretty sure you need a floppy drive for the SATA drivers to install Windows.

OP, MY copy of Windows XP OEM, SP2 sure doesn't have Powerpoint or Word... Hooray for Open Office

anyways, the DT770's are NOT $400!!!!!!, where did u get that idea????? i found them at numerous places for ~$200!

i dont know what i was thinking about the 300gb hdd, i herd somewhere that since it has a 16mb buffer that it is just as fast as a raptor, my bad. well before that i was looking at the seagate SATA 200gb drive at newegg for ~$128

i need a floppy to install the sata drive.....and it would be nice to have one anyways

i dont want to get an audigy 2 soundcard because i herd audigy 4 isnt too far away. i would explain but i need headphones, cant get speakers (will interfere too much with my sister's)


the neopower i am not too sure about, it doesnt look like it dishes out enough power

i went with OCZ memory because i herd its the best overclocking stuff out there.

and will i get microsoft word, powerpoint, excel, etc. with the retail version? or will i have to buy microsoft office or something like that? this may seem wierd but i saw wondows xp pro retail for about the same price as xp home retail........

well, what exactly is open office? is it just like word? because i really need MICROSOFT PowerPoint for i can do my pp at home and bring it to school and download it on their computers (i could just borrow a labtop from school except i would prefer to use my own computer) so i guess i will have to get the retail version(???), theres another hundred on the price , hopefully my uncle will be generous and give me some more cash for christmass but i doubt it.

1) the sli boards are starting to show up
2) the new nec drive is at monarchcomputer

More BAD NEWS:

1) prices of the sli boards are jacked up (as of now)

well, i only wanted to get retail because i thought it came with word....i will change that.....

and i want a floppy, even if i dont need it it is nice to know i have one and that i can use it if something comes up, and plus, $7 isnt gonna make a difference

i guess i am forced to drop down the cpu and ram, i did not want to but i have to, my $2000 isnt getting stretched so far but i will go on dell and hp and see what i can get for that amount of money (just for comparison, hopefully it will make me feel better).

and building a computer isnt really gonna save u any money. considering my situation, i thought i was going to save a lot of money (which i think i am) but then i go and pick out good parts that dell and hp and other manufacturers dont even sell and it ended up costing more then expected , i would buy from dell or hp etc. but the choices just arent enough and i am convinced that they sell u older parts (ex: socket 775(or what ever it was) for amd (no smart person would want that).....although monarch has the best custom computer thing going on with all the choices, i will just keep $50 and build myself

and if any of u dont want to build a computer yourself, go to hp and find gaming system (compaq) and configure the amd system, u get a free upgrade to a 3800+ from a 3500+(lowest speed)..

The only reason building it yourself is more expensive is because you're not putting in crap no name peices like most prebuilt probably are. No name PSUs, HDs, DVD drives, RAM, generic mouse and keyboard, etc. You're puting quality items into your rig. You could have gone with the cheapest shit out there, but you (like me) can't bring yourself to do that.
