I want to build a Fileserver so that I dont have to have all my drives in my main box, and so people can access files even when my computer isnt on.
Im looking for a case to fill the job. Heres what Im looking for in order of importance:
-Airflow: Want to keep those drives cool
-Capacity: Id like to have at least 6 internal 3.5 drive bays (with active cooling), and at least 3 external 5.25 bays for a drive cage.
-Sturdy: I want it to be a nice solid sturdy case
-Light: As light as possible, so I can take it places if I need to. I dont mind aluminum, but it cant be flimsy like many aluminum cases tend to be. (I want to be able to plop a 21" Trinitron on top of it in the car, and not worry about it collapsing, etc)
-Cheap: As cheap as possible (Id like to spend no more than $100 or so on it). It doesnt need to have a powersupply included, because Ive got a sparkle 530 waiting for it.
Ive looked at the Antec Super-LANboy. Its light, but only has 4 sliding drive rails inside and its pretty expensive. The Antec Sonata is nice but its even more expensive than the LANboy and includes a powersupply that I dont need. Most of the cheaper ones tend to be really lacking on airflow, and have really poor ways of mounting drives.
