Hey there.

I want to get into making things out of fibreglass, however I've been looking on the web for a while now, and cant find anywhere that starts you from the basics.

Something like a tutorial or guide on something being made I'm sure could get me started.

Many Thanks

Chris

Fibreglass? Hmm...I've never really came across any mods that used fibreglass...but I've seen ones that used carbon fibre, which was easier to work with...
Checked out Mashie's site yet? He's got a guide on working with carbon fibre
If you wanna work with fibreglass, I suggest putting on a mask dude...those fibres do your lungs no good.

yeh mask for defo :D

carbon fibre is more expensive thats the problem.

Mashies site ?

I've posted a bunch of good tips in the Worklogs forum in the thread 'mod project aphex' - that might help. I don't know what mashie's site URL is and I haven'[t seen it, but I've heard its pretty good. also check car audio forums - some have fabrication sections which have just this type of thing. I actually learned most of my stuff over at carsound.com.

great links! thanks

to obtain that almost like plastic finish what do you use ?

As i doubt you sand the glass down itself ?

Any ideas ?

it says in the first link to use bodyfiller at the end to smooth it out. You can also use bondo, then sand, and you'll get your glass finish off primer, many thin coats of paint, annd an acrylic sealer/finish.

the last steps include bondo, sanding, filling in the final tiny spots with some epoxy, and then even more sanding... you essentially sand until your hands fall off...

and if you need more how-tos just search for speaker/sub enclosure how-tos.. that's what you mostly use fiberglass for

It takes quite a bit of work, I used to fix boats..Just watch the MEK, that crap will kill your Liver...Wet sanding and light coats work well for a shiny finish...You can also get marine enamel for finishing...worked well on sub boxes, used to make them out of leftover MDF and enamel them then sell them in Highschool...

I'm no expert though...
