I have a perfect 17" monitor I received for free that needed a new cable.

I ordered some M/F cable, not thinking much about it, and figured out which wires to connect to which wires near the atx type conncetor the monitor cable ends at that goes into the monitor's pcb.

Anyways, I soon realized nothing higher than 800x600 was fine without ghosting or shadows and weird interference showing up. So I need a better cable it seems with good shielding and ferrites.

I thought I could come up with my own solution by removing the ferrites from the old cable and just sliding them onto the new one, but they didnt do anything. Is there anything I have to do to get them to work? They aren't as tight as they were on the original cable, does it matter? Infact they are loose and held one on each end with tape temporarily, (the old cable had thick outer covering)

I'm not finding any cheap cables with ferrites to buy, so I was thinking of just getting some ferrites from digikey, but then again, just putting some ferrites on a cable didnt work for me last time.

If there is a good cable here http://ncix.com/search/?quicksearch=vga+cable&imageField.x=0&imageField.y=0 it would be very easy for me to order and get it quickly, but I don't really know.

If I do get a good svga cable with nice ferrite beads, will it matter that I cut one connector off and split the wires soldering them to the proper place? I'm talking in concern of the grouding at that end of the cable. I heard there was a huge difference in grounding if shielding is only grounded at one end, rather than both.

So I'm wondering if shielding is normaly grounded intside the connector, and whether or not I should just connect the shielding at the cut end to ground.

...looking for vga cable replacer experts.
