FarCry patch 1.2 = bad for ATi?

DH is not the only site. Hopefully there will be a workaround of some sort...

Yeah but 1.2 did do something bad..... I'm reading between 6-8 percent drop.

Well they used geometry instancing for SM3.0 so there is a very real possibility they added more geometry, which would slow down the ATI cards.

LOL.. .anything done with SM3.0 will have zero affect to ATI while rendering SM2.0.

Um thats kinda wrong. If they added more geometry to the game because they could do so with little penalty in SM3.0, that would slow down cards without SM3.0 obviously because they are doing more work rendering the extra geometry.

How is he wrong? I wouldnt bother installing the new patch unless you have the new nvidia cards. If you have an ati card jsut dont install the new patch.

I have an x800 pro while waiting for the 6800 ultra, This patch is more then just ps3 support. This patch supposedly fixes some mp issues, or gripes. I just bought the game have 1.1 and am enjoying the Single player ve rsion. Im waiting to try the multiplayer till they change/fix the details listed int he fix log. However now the 1.2 destroys the textures on x800 line cards? weird

I just read this at the bottom of the driverheaven FarCry 1.2 review:
UPDATE 05/07/04

We have been in discussions with ATI/Crytek today over the issues we discovered with Radeon X800 rendering as detailed in the above article. Crytek have confirmed that the FarCry 1.2 build released today will no longer have these issues and that X800 IQ will be just as good in Patch 1.2 as it was in 1.1.

They didn´t add anything only performance enhancements tweaks. PS 2.0 mode is exactly the same as before except slower now for some reason...

The peformance for FX users took a huge hit, but also fixed the bugs from the last patch. FX users have to decide if they want the image quality bugs fixed, and other game issues fixed, or the faster performance of the first patch.

G8 to hear, cant waitr for the patch! Crytek did/is doing a great job with this game. I figured they wouldnt hang ati boys, however im bitter on the abit kv8 pro. :) They release new bios that take away features/voltage. Great job by the developers to working the sm 3 in so fast. Im looking forward to playingn this game with sm3 and doom3 on an 6800

Interesting review indeed. The patch does show a big improvement for the 6800 class cards, when aa/af is off. But when I look at where it counts, the average fps sections of the graph that include 4xAA/16AF, the gains aren't quite as impressive. And they didn't throw in a X800XTPE into the review. Only the X800Pro. It was not complete enough for my tastes. I'd like to have seen more info.
