FARCRY foliage rendering q.

i think remember reading somewhare a code to turn of the foliage distance efect(the equivelent of mip mapping). if it exists,what was it? TIA

"e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio 100"
 
for shader model 3.0 it renders all the trees as geometry so you don't see artifacting at trees in the distance.
 
so if i have a 6800 GT then i should enter that command line? im getting one in a couple of days :D good ol newegg
 
youl take a hit in performance, but if it oc's well then do it, it looks good on mine. than again now i runn it at 1280*1024 as aposed to 16*12, but its worth it i think
 
with instancing in 1.2 you take a minimal (1-2 fps) perf hit, and enjoy much more impressive distance visuals.
 
without it, far away tress look like sprites.

with it, the are models.

this also works with SM2.0b

Its not much of hit if any do to instancing

Toward the end of my thread the subject comes up and after playing with it i post new shots with instancing and the distance tweak

the shots were taken when i had a Gt

Go to posts 54 and begin there if you too lazy to go the whole thread

Post 61 is a shot with instancing and the vegi 100 enabled
