Fans slow down under heavy load!

Ok, I'm just wondering if it is normal and if I should be worried that when there is a heavy load (gaming, folding) my fans slow down by about 100RPM. I can audibly hear the difference. The +12V rail only drops by .12 (12.04 idle to 11.92 load). Could this small drop in voltage make the fans slow down so audibly? Should I get a new power supply?

Thanks

.12V is 1%. That's pretty substantial... unless you're going from a 2A to 70A load on the 12V rail.. which I'm sure you're not. :D

But are all the fans on the same power cable?

Or are they all powered via motherboard headers?

I bet they're on the motherboard, and traces carry minimal amperage. If the PCI-e slot needs extra juice, it can increase the resistance and drop the voltage.

Where are you checking the voltage? At the fan or on another connector? Because of resistance, you can potentially see 12V at an unloaded connector and 11V at another.

Yes, all the fans are on the same power cable. None of them are powered by the motherboard headers. I have the fans on one power cable while another other one services my X1950PRO AGP. Its when the video card is loaded is when the fans slow down actually. They slow down 100RPM when a load kicks in and then they stabilize at that slowed speed. When the load is removed the fans speed up again by the 100RPM they lost. I'm using Speedfan to check my voltages.
