All of my new hardware arrives tomorrow, so I am removing everything from my case tonight. I have 2 fans in the back and 1 fan on the side that I knew about. I found another fan in front of the hard drives. My motherboard has connections for 3 fans plus the processor fan. Two of the connections are 3 pins and 1 is 4 pin. Two of my existing fans have 3 pins. The other 2 have 2 wires running into a 4 plug male/female connectors.

Here are the questions.
1) Should I remove the fans with the 2 wire connections and get a 4 pin fan?
2) Being now I can only have 3 fans where is the optimal position for them? I have 2 spots in the front (including the one in front of the hard drives), 2 in the rear and 1 on the side.

The 4 pins are prolly just rpm monitoring or maybe they adjust to the temp. your fans are fine.

So you have 3 fans +1 in front of the harddrives??

I'd set two up in the back ejecting, one intake on the side, then the +1 on the harddrives.

or,

I'd set one up in the back ejecting, one intake on the side, then the +1 on the harddrives
