I need to run 2 8mm case fans and I was wondering if it would be possible to use a dc inverter from like say a cd player? I would think anything between 7-12v would be ok?

I assume that you mean you want to run them off of a standard AC wall outlet. Then any inverter that gives of no more than 12V would be fine.
