I bought an LED fan, and figured out I don't even need it, but I love the blue LEDs on it. I have the lanboy, so it goes where that green thing snaps into place. When I turn the fan on, I get a whinning sound, so I want to disable the fan somehow so it stops spinning, but the LEDs stay on. Any suggestions? if you realy dont need the fan, then just pull the blade assembly off, the moter will still spin but there will be no fan and you still have light, or you can get a quieter led fan, or open up the airflow in and out of the fan ... depends on whats making the noise
 
Pull the paper cover off the fan motor and look at where the wires hook up. on the one I just checked the power and ground wires that are soldered onto the fan is where the led's are also hooked. cut one wire and hook the led lead up directinstead of having the fan run the led's will come on, and if you need the fan you can hook them back up:D

Whining sound eh? Sure it's not defective?

Anyway- just get some bare LEDs, and avoid all the people asking why you have a fan that's not spinning, and all the wierd looks they give you when they tell them.

If you REALLY want to keep the fan w/ LEDs, just find the wires to the motor, but not to the LEDs. Might not be possible though.
 
Moving/removing wires to the fan would work, but if you really just want the fan frame with LED's, take the sticker off the back of the fan, and pop the little plastic ring off the hub of the motor and pull the blades off... the motor won't spin because it needs the magnets (inside the blade assembly) to work at all

by whining sound, do u mean the air thats being pushed is making noise?
 
Usually when a fan makes a whinning noise, pull out the sticker on the fan to reveal the "motor" and put a small dub of Synthetic Motor oil in there. Replace the sticker and enjoy!
