So I'm noticing lately that my box is getting a bit over-toasty when I play WoW. Now, I could stop playing WoW after a fair 9 hours, but why bother? I know I have to replace the cheapy 400w PS that came with the case, and I've known I had to do that for a while now, just haven't gotten around to ordering the damn thing (I do already know which one I want to replace it). That thing cooks. I've considered making a tinfoil pan to fry an egg on on top of my machine when it gets warmed, but I really don't want to know it's that hot.

I'm also planning on upgrading my fans. Aside from the fact that some of them are starting to get some bearing noise that bothers me as much as it concerns me, I just don't feel they are pushing enough air. However, I also have my machine in my bedroom and it dutifully runs 24/7 -- so living inside a wind tunnel is not my idea of a good time.

Obviously I want a fan controller, but I'm looking for something specific. I want to find one that will monitor temperatures in the case (and from the die as well, if at all possible) and ramp up the speed automatically if needed. I can't seem to find any, but I would settle for one that could have a couple speed settings linked to a quick button so I just have to hit it fast. Automagically setting the speed is preferred just in case SETI starts cranking up the juice when I'm not around.

Anyone have any suggestions, reccomendations, or whatnot? Thanks for the input.
 
Just in case you run across it, the Digidoc will do the monitor temps and turn fans on at temp trip points and monitor the cpu (with its own temp probe you have to install on the heatsink or next to the die). It also has a "everything on" button. Nice eye candy with rpm monitoring and fan fail too. will do 4 fans and temps or 8 fans and temps . oh has audible alarm too. around $50 last time I looked.

The trouble is there is no delay and your fans cycle on-off-on constantly which can be (read 'is very') annoying. I just wanted to alert you to that, it caused me to toss it in the closet after I made sure my temps were where I wanted. I pull it out and use the temp monitors on a new fancy build every now and then but dont install it.

There may be newer stuff out there but I havent shopped for a high end fan controller in a long time.
 
I'm searching for the same now myself...

The one that I've found as far as VERY expensive top-of-the-line is the Innovatek Fan-O-Matic. Does the things you asked for....
 
I didnt think any of those after market monitor could see what the internal die temp was? This seems to be why those on board fan controllers seems to be coming more popular, because at least you can scale fans to the die temp.

The best most (all?) fan monitors/controllers do is give you probes, but if you have a CPU with an IHS, then the probe doesnt do you a whole lot of good.
