I've decided to just go with a powered pwm splitter. My motherboard can control 9 fans anyways. It's the Gigabyte Z87 OC Force

these are really good fans that don't make any extra sounds when undervolted and they are very quiet, performance is almost identical to GT. Heard lots of complaints about the sound of GTs when they are undervolted, free shipping is a plus too...

here is the fan controller I have, it has served me well and it has the option of turning the display off which for some reason a lot of fan controllers don't have (I find this essential). Its display has the common issue of many fan controllers which is bad off angle viewing though.

Those fans are 14cm, whereas I'm using a 480mm radiator. I could get them, but they would leave part of the radiator uncovered.

I thought the UT60 only fits 120mm (12 cm) or 140mm (14 cm) fans

I can use 3 140mm fans with it, yes. However that would cover 420mm of surface leaving 60mm uncovered. Seems unoptimal to me.

You can definitely hook up a power distribution block to a fan controller. I'm using several power blocks with rad and case fans connected to my Lamptron FC5V3 fan controller. If the fan control feature of the link commander works like standard fan controllers it shouldn't be a problem. The link commander fan control node itself shouldn't know the difference if using a powerblock or not. Not sure of the wattage output of the link commander cooling node for the fans though. I see the node itself gets a molex connector and attaches to the commander. One key point is to disconnect the RPM lead wire on all but one fan on each power block, otherwise the RPM readout will be messed up. So if you had say 4 fans on each powerblock, remove the RPM wire/pin(typically yellow though it's white on my E-loops) out of the connector on 3 of the fans before plugging into the powerblock. Not sure if your set on link commander for sure or not. If your looking just for auto fan control, I believe the Lamptron FC Touch might work as well.
