Fan controller for Tsunami Dream?

Anybody out there know of any good button-style digital fan controllers that can be adjusted all the way down to 0V? I’ve got a Tsunami Dream case with way too much fan noise and was getting ready to buy a Vantec Nexus analog controller until it came to my attention that the knobs would prevent my case door from closing. I emailed Thermaltake and asked if they knew of any knob-style controllers that would work with the case door without having to recess the controller. They replied and said that no analog controllers will work and that I’ll have to go with a button-style controller. However, most of the digital controllers I’ve checked only go down to 5V. Any suggestions (preferabley under $50)?
 
Well I'm not exactly sure what's in the inside of the door on the Tsunami, but with my raidmax, the door was hollow for the LED's to be placed in and to give a lighting effect. I just simply drilled some holes in the door panel so that they didn't go all the way through....

But your right, I first tried just pushing back the controllers and it looks like shite.....

You could possibly wire up your own which should be too hard..
 
The door is definitly too thin to drill into. It's true that I could just wire my own, but I really do like the look of the LCD's and temp displays and such. I may just end up buying one that only adjusts down to 5V.

I had the tsunami dream and I know about the fan noise. But you shouldn't worry about the nexus clearing the door. I used the nexus 3.5inch fan controller and it cleared the door no problems. Maybe I got lucky but it definitely fit. Good luck.

Which one did you have? NXP-201, 301, 305... They all look pretty much the same dimension-wise so maybe it doesn't matter. Just curious though.

I don't remember what model but it was definitely a 3.5 inch one. Also I remember it came with lights if that helps.
 
It doesn't go to zero, but svc.com has the Coolermaster Cooldrive 6 for next to nothing.

Check it out under "Clearance" unless I got the last one! It's digital and button style so it should fit, plus it has a pimped-out yet understated appearance. As a bonus, it cools a hard drive too.

BTW, you know that your fan will quit spinning somewhere around 3v or so, right? Going to zero is not a real necessity, but if the fans are that noisy you could wire a resistor in line and have a range of ~3.5v to 10v or something like that so that silence is possible. Be aware that if you turn the voltage all the way down your fans may not start up without temporarily raising it (damn inertia!).
 
I have a Tsunami dream and placed a PC Toys fan controller
The door still latches but not as hard as before. Still is ok
only problem I really have is that the case uses drive rails for 5.25" Drives. and on the pctoy fan controller they just dont sit right. So I end up with a visible gap
 
Wow! Thanks for all your help guys! I think I'm going to go with Pinktri and get one of the Vantec 3.5" controllers and hope for the best. I don't really need anything too fancy anyway - I'm hoping to get water-cooled as soon as I can convince my wife that without it the world may come to an end!! You all friggin rock!!
 
Hey I hope its not too late but I felt like I should say one thing. I just called my buddy whom I sold the case to and he told me the Vantec does fit in the Tsunami but it's recessed in just a little. I had him measure it out and he said its sitting about 2mm in. But he did say he doesn't know why I pushed it in a little since there is still some room left for the door to close. So in his and my best estimation it should fit. Just wanted to let you know incase this changes your mind. Sorry if I mislead you in the previous post but I still believe you shouldn't have any issues. good luck
 
I have the NXP-305 which goes all the way down to completely off. The knobs protrude about 3/8 in. from the faceplate. Be aware that although Vantec claims it is adjustable from 0 to 12 volts, it is actually a pulse width modulation (PWM) controller. The voltage is always 12 volts, but controls fan speed by varying the on-time pulse width from 0 to 100%.
 
You could get the tt hardcano 12 or 13 although they are slightly more than what you're looking to spend and don't go down to 0v. I believe they only go down to 5v and are somewhat difficult to get going and figure out if you don't read the instructions, but once you do they are pretty nice. The Vantec Nexus is nice and much easier to use all while being more affordable than the hardcano.
 
For the fan noise, I would cut out the fan grill of the intake and exhaust fan first to see how much that helps. =)
 
Anyone have any opinions about the Hardcano 13? I love the features of this one, but the reviews at Newegg.com are unusually negative for a product like this. Any thoughts?
 
 
Wow! Thanks ~GoaT~ for taking the time to post all those links! Seems like all the cons in these reviews are just petty little things like a skimpy instruction manual and bad cable management. I love the backlighting features and the fact that you can monitor up to 4 temps and fan speeds. Guess I'll give this one a shot! Thanks for the help!
 
One last call, I like the Hardcano 13 alot but I don't need the card reader or the HDD cooler. I love the Temp sensors and the overall look. Anyone know of a good similar controller that has no protruding buttons, four channels of control and temp, and no extra crap? Sorry guys, I think I change my mind more than John Kerry! :rolleyes:
