Fair Warning-Buy a UPS

I got the APC Back-UPS XS 800VA UPS/Surge Protector and you couldn't pry it out of my cold dead hands. I love this thing. It has come on 47 times in the last 3 months from power irregularities. Definetly a reccomend.

Yes , I recently leased a house and my APC reports outages 6 times an hour. I shutter at the thought of what would have happeded had it not been on line during a CS Match

If it's really over/under volting that often you either have the settings set to sensitive, or you need to call the power company.

i have like 3 of them now and will never get rid of them unless its to replace it. i've had them for about 3 years without incident

Unfortunately, that's not always an option especially in older neighborhoods. Our house is ~100 years old and the electrical in this neighborhood is crap. All it takes is high wind or rain and we can get brownouts.

Yeah sorta like that, a blackout is when it's off - off, and a brownout is when you're just getting shitty power quality (wonder if that's why it's called a brown out? hmm...). Alot of times you won't even notice it happened, but your computer will if it's not behind a UPS.
