Selling my old gaming desktop to a friend for WoW. Here's the breakdown.

-MSI-7103 mainboard. LGA775, 2GB DDR-400 max, AGP graphics.
-Thermaltake Purepower 500W PSU
-P4 HT @ 2.93Ghz
-2GB DDR-400 RAM
-Visiontek HD2400 PRO graphic card
-Maxtor Diamondmax 21 160GB PATA drive
-NEC 3550A CD/DVD RW drive (PATA)
-Generic full tower case with acrylic window

I'm charging $150, as that's roughly what our refurbished P4 systems go for at work, (I work at Micro Center) Of course, those don't come with the PSU, video card, etc. What do you guys think? I might have asked for more, but this friend is not too well off financially, and his current computer is a PIII laptop.

You work at MC? When will they bring those nice CPU prices back? lol. :D

Thread moved, thanks for the heads-up.

As to the pricing, which particular CPU?

$100 - Q8200
$170 - Q9550
$200 - i7 920
$150 - i5 750
$230 - i7 860
etc

I know we had the i7-920 for $199 for the longest time. Our ads change weekly, and while some of the prices are good for a month, others are good for that week only. If you want, I'll keep an eye out, and if i hear anything, I'll let you know.

I got my 920 through Retail Edge, an Intel retail training program. Got the chip, Vista Ultimate, and a free upgrade to 7 Ultimate, all for $129.

Yah, Intel Retail Edge is pretty widely known. The new retail edge program has the X25-M 80GB G2 for $125, IIRC, which is a steal, imo.

The i5 had its price since its release, same with the 860. I got the 920 about a year ago, and price was good until the end of the year, lol. The Q9550 lasted nearly as long as the 920, and the Q8200 was only a week, hehe. But yah, many of those loss-leaders lasted much longer than a week or month. Just wish they'd bring them back again soon.

"Loss leader" says it all.

I'm thinking that the LGA-775 stuff is being phased out. What pisses me off currently is that we have a glut of P55 stuff. Mobos, coolers, 4 and 8 gig kits, etc. But only a very few X58 items. And one 6 gig kit I wanted had the employee cost double in a week's time. Memory prices going up, much?
