What about the linux client on Ubuntu 7.10 running on the E6700@3.0GHz (2Gb ram)? It was only pulling about 1300-1400 ppd. I switched to WinXp pro with AC and now it is cranking 2000 ppd. I thought the the linux client was supposed to be more efficient. Is there anything special you are supposed to do on the linux client to get max ppd?

That's a good question, I don't think there's anything special to do. I'm thinking you had other problems besides your operating system. I have folded on quite a few Linux boxen, both 32 bit single client and 64 bit SMP client, the Linux boxen always do better because I've heard the Linux 64 bit and 32 bit OS's have less overhead. Maybe when Stanford writes a 64 bit SMP client for VISTA 64 it'll even things up?
I was just going thru my drawer and the only other OS system I've folded under was WinXP /w SP2, but in Linux I have folded using Xubuntu 64 bit (v8.04, v7.10), Ubuntu 64 bit and Kubuntu 64 bit (v6.06 LTS, v7.04, v7.10), Ubuntu v6.06 LTS 32 bit, Simply Mephis 64bit (v7.0 ?), PCLinuxOS 2007 (32 bit), Mephis v6.06 (32 bit) Fedora i686, Fedora i386, Mandriva 2008 (32 bit) and some others I can't remember from back aways. I've used the SMPing clients since they were downloadable. I'm still partial to any Ubuntu flavor and apt-get, but I have DVD's for SUSE, Fedora Core 7 and CentOS v5.1 (I haven't given them a test run), plus I have CD's for BDS, Puppy Linux, DSL Linux, Ark, FreeSpire, Knoppix, Slackware and a few more, my typing finger is getting tired. The CD's are mostly 32 bit only, but they're fast on low memory and slower older machines
As far as folding, I don't think you can out do any Linux 64 bit boxen running the SMP client. I still have one of my 3x registered copies of WinXP /SP2 running, I think Linux still needs to catch up with winders for the all out desktop operating system. (especially from reading some of the current and unbiased reviews about VISTA Ultimate 64 bit)
The above is simply the opinion of the author, I've come to the conclusion: the more I know about something, the less I know about it
