So what exactly did Folding at Home 1 accomplish?

There are a dozens of papers on F@H's website that show what they have been making progress on.

There is the potential for a drug for a type of alzheimer's come from what we have done. This is a massive massive project. We are laying the ground work for types of medical research for the next century.

Folding@Home 1? There is only one F@H, and it's ongoing.

Not true, there was a Folding phase 1. It was what this team started with and when Stanford ended it we were on top. What's going on now could be called phase 2 (although probably beyond that now). However unlike the first phase Stanford has not officially ended this one and capped off the points to begin another like with phase 1.

I really saw it as more of a proof of concept and giving Vjay and his people the experience of setting up the servers, tweaking the Folding client of the time, and working some early "small" proteins. Once they got things in place and saw they had community support they went forward with the current system.
