I just installed it as it looked semi interesting and wanted to do something, but i don't know exactly what cause I am helping. I read something about cancer? but I think it was just one of those clicky things, iono for sure, give me some insight.

its some thingy that uses 100% of your cpu. hell I'm at 39000 points and don't really know what its for. I only use it because I hate having all my CPU go to waste when I'm not home :p. something for maping proteins or something

Basically Stanford universtiy has a very large group of equations that need to be performed. They have their own uber computers to be sure, but we're talking VERY LARGE! So, they divide the work up and they send out bits of it to anyone willing to lend some CPU cycles. Your computer runs the equations they request when you're not using it, and then sends them back so then can be combined with what everyone else is doing.

Why? Basically the work they're doing helps to understand the inner workings of the protiens that are the building blocks of life. By understanding the protiens better, then can learn why some cause cancer and some cause dashing good looks and intelligence, like in my case.

So if you fold, you're sacrificing extremely little so that when your efforts are combined with others, we can reach many answers that will help us all much sooner.

I love that..... no additions needed... cept im at 90k pts... ;) and ditto..

lol welcome to the team!

Well if it's helping understand those things much better, I'm willing to help; as I have 2 Family members with cancer. 1 Passed recently and other is fighting it off; wish I would have found this earlier.

Edit: How do you get the "[H]" logo on your replys?

After finishing your first workunit
go to Hardfolding.com > F@H Stats > Serach for your name, click on the link to your name
then at the bottom of the page has instructions on how to do it

(have to register at hardfolding.com as well)

It is our team's site for the F@H and UD projects

Sorry to hear about the losses g0o53, I lost my grandfather in Oct, so I know the boat you are in a little bit, every little bit helps, and lets hope we can get something done in our lifetimes!

edit:
What does Folding@Home do? Folding@Home is a distributed computing project which studies protein folding, misfolding, aggregation, and related diseases. We use novel computational methods and large scale distributed computing, to simulate timescales thousands to millions of times longer than previously achieved. This has allowed us to simulate folding for the first time, and to now direct our approach to examine folding related disease
-Folding.Stanford.edu

There is quite a bit of good stuff, and if you are into it all, lots of their data and different publications for you to wrap your mind around

No problem. everyone here is very helpful... just watch out for some of us.. at times we can be trying to be "comical" :)

Don't forget to hug the moose... before he hugs you... and add your box to the "d to 500" thread!

If there is anything else just let us know!

Also, if you're looking for more information, don't forget to check out the [H]orde's website: www.hardfolding.com. More specifically the F@H Page to find out information on the project, faqs, and information about various addons and setup information.
