F@H & Slow Network Performance

Noticed this today on my fileserver.

CPU = X3350 @ 2.66ghz
OS = Vista x64

Got 4 x Uniprocessor Clients running and was moving some files from that server to my main system.

I was getting very slow network speeds. I turned one of the F@H clients off and it went back up to normal.

I am guessing that having the cpu at 100% load is leaving nothing for the OS to use.

I did go and change the advanced system setting from "Programs" to "Background Services" to see if it helps (Had not had time to test this yet)

Since this is my FileServer for the House (TV & Movies), i want to ensure network speed remains high.

Any other suggestions?

check on the network cards config for an option like optimized cpu usage or something like that.. i have it on my asus board but that systems been off for months so i cant check what it is exactly.. but just look for something refering to the CPU.. also check the way you have the VM clients setup see if its effecting your network.. you could also go in and change the priorities of your network cards.. make sure your physical network card is at the top of the list instead of the VM's(i forgot how to do this but ill screw with it after i wake up.. to tired right now to mess with it)
 
I looked but could not find that option in the Intel ProSet options.

Here is what is weird about the situation.

CPU load @ 100% slow network -
Shutdown 1x client -- Full Speed -
Restart above client -- Full Speed on network transfer
(I gave the F@H 2 min to get *working* again and make sure CPU load was at 100%)

If i wait a while and try again ... speed is back down
(Time span of couple hours)

Slow = down to 1MB per second ..
Standard is 30MB <-> 75MB per second

I also verified hard drive sleep was disabled
(Not sure if that would have caused slow transfer speed)

I also made sure to disable any power saving options in the nic configuration.

The motherboard (Intel P41) has an intragrated intel 1000 nic.
I am going to put in a PCI Intel Nic today and see if that helps any ?
Worth a shot at least .. but still baffled about all of this
 
Seems to have resolved itself overnight.
Hopefully it will continue to work correctly ..

Do not know what caused it but glad it is fixed
