This is probibly a quick and easy question but iv searched and searched and dont seem to find a answer.
I have been using the graphical client for a long time, and decided to try the console client.
I thought it would be diffrent, and i think i screwed up the settings. So my questions are below.

How do i remove/uninstall the client cleanly?

How do i modify the settings (or check them) after inishial instellation?

I have a Hyperthreading processor, and only 50% of it is being used. Do i have to run 2 clients? Or can i change a setting?

What do you mean you screwed it up? Give details and we can help fix it for ya.

If you want to uninstall the graphical client, simply go to the uninstall shortcut. To uninstall the console, simply delete it. Then go to regedit and delete the following key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>>SYSTEM>>CurrentControlSet>>Services>>FAH@"path where you have the directory" <-- that will be different for everyone, usually its C/Program Files/Folding@Home

Dont worry about the Hyperthreading, Windows reports it as 50% but it is using 100%, running 2 clients will be a very meager gain in PPD, but your units will be running slowere

Welcome to the [H]orde. :D

You can find the set up guides here:

http://www.hardfolding.com/index.php?go=3

or on the stanford site where you down loaded the client, the instructions are right with the version you down loaded.

If you like you can just delete the whole folding dir and start over, or follow the directions and reconfigure what you have.

Luck

All my questions were for the console client.
the first time i ran it from my desktop it created a lot of jumk on my desktop, and i diddent know it installed where the exe was saved.

Before i knew the above, i had chose run instead of save, so i think its running from the temp internet files, which is not cool for when they are cleaned up.

And now i created a folder in the program files called folding and ran the installer from there but it did not ask me for any settings.

So all in all i should of read the instructions from the start and would of avoided all of this, but now i need to wipe myself off and start over. Hopefully that gives you more insite on how i screwed it up.

lol, i knew it was a lightweight client, but did not know it wouldent come with some sort of uninstaller. =-)

So i need to uninstall the console client. However many instances of there may be.

Once i master the console instellation and make it transparent to the PC user im going to purpose to my boss if it may be installed on our training classroom.

FAH@C:+Documents and Settings+Administrator+Local Settings+Temporary Internet Files+Content.IE5+812VSLEZ+FAH502-Console[1].exe

Yup just as i thought, the Temp internet one is the one running i guess.

Mage's installer is awesome, use it for a quick and easy install, just make sure not to change the installation folder, let it go to C:\Program Files\Folding@Home\ as per the default. I tried to install to a different folder and it doesn't work right.

And the way I edit the config is to first stop the F@H service, then go to your installation folder and edit client.cfg with notepad, save and then restart the service.

Don't do this! Windows uses a different character encoding than F@H is expecting, and when you restart the service, F@H will reject the edited client.cfg and create an "empty" one. I've lost a few thousand points because of this. Here's the "correct" way to change your configuration: first stop the F@H service, then go to your installation folder and run FAH502-Console.exe -configonly, change the settings you want, and then restart the service.

I call FAKE.
Your trying to bump your post count up.

Yes I forgot to add that, you have to edit it carefully, leaving the structure and line breaks (small squares after each option) intact. I've changed teams and CPU usage that way without any issues. But of course like you said the configonly option would be the best way.

That's rich, coming from K*.

Bump my post count? You mean, by posting pointless, inane comments?

...

wait a minute...

Hey, i'm not the one saying you are trying to make your e-pen bigger...

Okay guys, lets keep the banter in check, and to helping our new folding buddy. :)

What, like this? Another recommendation for setup-fold. Download it, run it, and FAH is installed as a service (or not) with no hassles.
