Hey Guys,
I have a Audigy 2ZS installed and whenever I play a game like Far Cry or BF:V after what seems like random lengths of time, the computer goes to a black screen, loops the audio and even the reset button wont kick it back up.

My first thought was, "Well, maybe its my OC." So I backed it off, and got the same issue.

Thought maybe it was memory, backed my timings off, but same problem. Dont have another stick to try.

So, I said fuck it and pulled my sound card and went back to on board sound...no issues.

Went and exchanged the card for the same one, same problem.

Has anyone had this problem? Or am I just the victim of a shitty card made by what once was a great company?

Specs:

Abit NF-7 v2.0
A-XP 2500+ @ 2.3GHz (209x11)
eVga 6800GT @ stock


Had speedfan up, temps are all okay.

Tried new drivers...all the updates. Same shit.

Anyone had this? Thanks!

I say your problem is from something else in your system other than the actual soundcard. The reason I say that is because I've logged hundreds of hours playing BF:VN while using an A2 ZS and never had a problem like you described.

Also, "after what seems like random lengths of time" usually = heat issue. Going on that idea, possibly, removing the soundcard altered the airflow just enough to where you couldn't repeat the problem in the usual amount of time. I imagine FC is the same, but I know BF:VN is very taxing on any system and generates more heat than usual. I've seen the temp differece on my machine.

For the heck of it, leave the A2 ZS in, but leave the side of your case off and play the games.
 
Thanks for the reply! I did end up narrowing it down to the vid card. I bought it from someone who smoked in the same room as the computer he had it in and I thought I had blown it out sufficiently. I pulled the fan off and the heatsink over the GPU was just CAKED with tar. Nastiest shit I've ever seen. So I blew it out and cleaned it, and took the sink off and put AS5 on the core. Lowered my temps by about 12C at idle. Jesus.

So, I do believe that was the issue, I started thinking about it after I had made the post and started testing.
