EyeFinity setup on a decent budget...

Hey all :D

I'm going to be going from a single 30 inch monitor to a 3+1 eyefinity setup (or maybe sell the 30 inch and use that money to buffer most of the cost of the 3 new monitors).

The monitors that seem to be at the best sweet spot for price-to-features that I've found are the Asus VE258Q LED monitors. 25 inch, 1920x1080, DP1.2, HDMI, etc and so on.

My target budget is $200-$260 CDN per monitor, 24 inch or greater, 1920x1080, and DP1.2 (so I can use my DP to daisy chain the eyefinity and use DVI-D for the 30 inch). If I lose the 30 inch, then I have 2xDVI-D + 1x DP to do EyeFinity with.

The games primarily played on my system are: DiRT3, Rift, BFBC:2 Multiplayer, CS:S, and BioWare RPGs (DAII, ME2, etc). I will also be hooking both an Xbox360 AND a PS3 into these monitors (hence why HDMI is so lovely :D)

Also, I am running CrossFire HD6850's, with no plans to change video cards for at least a year (because I just bought them).

What I would love to get is feedback on:

-Experiences with the VE258Q monitors
-Other monitors that would do a decent job
-Thoughts, questions, comments on this setup (2xHD6850 + 3x25 inch 1920x1080 monitors)

I am trying to determine which monitors to get as well.

My 3 choices are:

3X:
Alienware 2310 (120hz 23") ($997)
Asus VE278Q (60hz 27") ($1049)
Asus VE258Q (60hz 25") ($780)

So the main differences between the 25" and the 27" ASUS are:
The 27" has picture in picture functionality which is kind of neat, but not a huge deal
The 27" is over 25" wide so even the larger stands will not work with 3 of these. (I want a stand)

The 25" has 5 eggs on Newegg and nothing in the reviews sounds alarming - it's a nice size and probably the biggest / best to easily put on a triple stand.

I have not found any info on this form or any real reviews out there.

I have 3 ASUS VE276. I've probably had the 3 of them for almost a year now and they have been perfect.

As you've figured out, the VE27X monitors will not allow you to use a stand. You should also be aware of the absolute size requirement of running 3 27" panels. We're talking about ~7' between the left edge and the right. When I'm looking at the middle of my middle screen, the middle of the left and right screens are at ~45°. I can't even put speakers or my case on my desk 8' desk because my monitors take up the length. It's quite a hassle in general.

But that being said, it's pretty badass.

Thankfully I'll save ~6 inches in total due to the fact the monitors I'm looking at are 25", not 27", but apart from that, sounds exactly how I want it :p

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the VE258Q monitors... will require a bit of time to save up specifically for them, but I dropped by the local computer store here in Calgary and took a gander. Nice n bright, good response time, and seemed to be pretty even with the display. Tried out DiRT3 eyefinity on their bigger brothers (VE278Q) and was suitably impressed with gaming quality.

$260 per monitor x 3 = $780
5% tax added on for a grand total of = $819

Not bad at all for 3x 25 inch with display port and LED backlighting

Newegg has the VE258Q on sale for $249 with free shipping to the continental US.

Not sure about Canada.

Mine will be here tomorrow and I will post my impressions. I'm not really the guy to worry too much about color gamut and everything - if I get good gaming and there is no obvious color problems, I will be happy.

120hz = win, my center screen is 120hz and my 2 sides are 60hz and when ever i enable eyefinity it kills me not playing at 120hz any more.
